Greens on Screen started its life in 1999 before many of the football sites that we are familiar with today, including Plymouth Argyle's own official site. Greens on Screen is dedicated to the sights, sounds and history of Plymouth Argyle Football club. It is owned and run by the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive, a charity dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and display of the heritage of our great football club.

The site owes its existence to Steve Dean.Without Steve's dedication and commitment for over 25 years, GoS would not exist and be the valued and loved resource for all football fans that it is today. The site is truly the envy of many clubs, and we owe a huge debt to Steve for his tireless work, and continued support behind the scenes.

Greens on Screen's first page was published in January 1999. Its early purpose was to bring Plymouth Argyle a little closer to those unable to see their team, and whilst it has changed a great deal over the years, its core themes - sights and sounds for Westcountry exiles - still stand. The site was very lucky to take on the content of Trevor Scallan's Semper Viridis in the summer of 2007, and in 2009 launched GoS-DB, a wealth of facts and figures from PAFC's history. A year later, we embarked on a complete history of Argyle, with much-valued contributions from chapter authors. Greens on Screen was taken over by its new custodians, The Argyle Archive, in 2024.

Greens on Screen is an amateur website and proud of it. It is run by a team of volunteers from the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive (Argyle Archive). Without the hard work and much-valued contributions of these volunteers, running the site would not be possible. Greens on Screen is self-taught and as a result, a little bit quirky.

Greens on Screen remains advertisement free, which means we are grateful for the generous support of our donors and the work of our volunteers to help keep it free of promotions. If you would like to support the work of Greens on Screen, please consider donating to the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive.

GoS's sole aim is to be a service to fellow supporters, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate Argyle'ss history for many years to come.

A very happy 35th birthday to our captain and legend, Joe Edwards.

Argyle Under-18s have drawn Milton Keynes Dons at home in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.

The tie will take place at Home Park, with a date and kick-off time to be confirmed in due course.

Amid swirling rumours of a potential sacking, the Club issued a statement in support of Head Coach, Tom Cleverley. Incoming CEO, Paul Berne, wrote on the website as follows:

Hi, everyone. After last night's game, I would like to talk to you all directly, and address our current status.

None of us the Board, Tom, staff, or the loyal Green Army - are comfortable with the start to our season. It has been a very disappointing start, and I think we all recognise that.

I feel that the club has been through an enormous period of instability, both on and off the pitch. We have seen too many changes of personnel, and this has made it difficult to find consistency in what we do.

I believe strongly that we need to return to a state where we regain that consistency, and therefore success. That will take time, but this is the right thing for our club and our future.

In the case of our Head Coach, let me be more explicit. We hired Tom as a young, bright, ambitious Head Coach who could come and be a big part of Argyle's next phase.

We are a quarter of the way into Tom's first season with us. Whilst results have been disappointing, nothing has changed in terms of Tom being the right person for this club. We need to bring that stability throughout the club, and this comes from Head Coach downwards.

We are confident that things will improve. We've had a number of circumstances which have hit us in recent weeks, resulting in key players being missing throughout the opening 14 league games. This was emphasised last night, with Tom unable to fill the substitutes bench, and nine players being unavailable for selection, with the vast majority considered first-team starters.

These are not excuses, but facts, and are clearly not ideal circumstances for any Head Coach to deliver consistent, winning performances. But, we believe Tom has all the tools to still deliver this.

Throughout all of this, the support of the Green Army has never wavered, with continued sell-out home crowds and incredible away backings. This support is never taken for granted by anyone at the football club, especially Tom, his staff and the players.

We are One Argyle, and as history has proven, when we are united we can achieve special things. Let's stick together. COYG.

Argyle Women played out a 1-1 draw away against Devon rivals, Exeter City.

After a goalless first half, the Grecians went in front via a Sophie Gillies strike, but Argyle equalised with a goal from substitute Tianna Teisar. The previous Friday, 19-year-old Teisar made her senior Wales debut, as a substitute who, just 24 hours prior, had started for Wales against Poland, playing the first half.

However, despite dominating the final ten minutes of the so of the game, including a Layla Proctor shot that landed on the roof of the net, Argyle could not find their winner, and had to settle for a point.

Argyle: 1 Hermione Cull, 6 Layla Proctor, 7 Charlotte Whitmore (24 Tianna Teisar, 72), 9 Phoebie Poole, 11 Roisin Kivel (capt), 16 Ella Stephens (14 Katie Wilson, 76), 17 Paris Dalton (15 Tamara Wilcock, 61), 18 Caitlin Smith, 19 Ellie Noble, 23 Olivia Francis, 26 Arabella Suttie. Argyle Under-18s progressed through to the second round of the FA Youth Cup after goals from Tashall Sandhu, Kian Burch, and James Sharpe clinched a 3-0 victory at Home Park.

Argyle: 1 Jack Flower (gk), 2 Joe Mwaro, 3 Malachi Davy (12 Toby Maclean, 65), 4 Oscar Dean (capt) (14 Joel Tolcher, 89), 5 Sam Hayman, 6 Toby Haley, 7 Tashall Sandhu, 8 Sam Lord, 9 Frankie Maund (16 James Sharpe, 83), 10 Seb Campbell, 11 Tegan Finn (15 Kian Burch, 57). Substitutes: 23 Leo McCormick (gk)

Another game, another loss, another woeful performance, leading to increasing calls for Tom Cleverley to go.

Argyle were defeated 2-0 against Mansfield Town at One Call Stadium on Tuesday evening. Will Evans' early goal made it an uphill battle for the Greens, before Jordan Bowery came off the bench to seal the result in the final ten minutes.

Argyle: Hazard, Ross, Wiredu (Paterson), Szucs (Pepple), Tolaj, Mumba, Oseni (Finn), Boateng (McCabe), Galloway, Roberts, Dale. Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, Campbell.

27th

Argyle Women's Head Coach, Marie Hourihan, was delighted not only with her side's seven-goal Cup victory yesterday, but with the fact they kept another clean sheet.

'The priority coming in today was to come through unscathed and get into the next round," Hourihan told Argyle TV. "We wanted no injuries, going into a three-game week, and to progress into the next round. I thought we did that really well today. In the first half, we had several goals ruled out for offside, so after 15 minutes, we were thinking, 'when is it going to drop and when's it going to change?'

"However, as I said, I thought our approach was excellent. It's always difficult when you're playing against a side that sits in a deep block and will require a bit of patience, but I thought our football at times today was very good. I'm delighted with the calibre of goals that we've scored and the consistency to want more goals.

"Momentum is key, and winning is a good habit. We were at home again, so it's an important factor that we continue our form at Home Park. Our approach had to be spot on, even when playing a team in a lower league than ourselves, but that doesn't take away from what we are trying to do here. The win was the most important thing, and we've come away with no injuries or problems, which gives us a good starting point going into Wednesday."

Argyle will host Gwalia United in the second round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.

Marie Hourihan's side will face their tier three opposition on Sunday, 2 November, in league play, before the FA Cup clash at the end of the month on Sunday, 23 November.

26th

Argyle Women raced into the second round of the Women's FA Cup with a 7-0 thrashing of Maidstone United - four goals coming in the first half and three in the second, though it could have been more. Three players scored twice - Ellie Noble, Ella Stephens and Charlotte Whitmore, adding to captain Giota Papaioannou's opener. There were second-half debuts for two 16-year-olds, Shana Dolbel and Chloe Ingrouille.

Maidstone, from the seventh tier of women's football, were taking part in the first round of the FA Cup this century, but came into the game unbeaten at their level.

Argyle will find out their second round opponents when the draw is made on Monday night.

Argyle: 1 Hermione Cull (21 Eilish Brogan, 62), 5 Giota Papaioannou (capt), 7 Charlotte Whitmore, 9 Phoebie Poole (2 Katie Dickson, 62), 11 Roisin Kivel, 14 Katie Wilson, 15 Tamara Wilcock (30 Shana Dolbel, 72), 16 Ella Stephens (29 Chloe Ingrouille, 79), 17 Paris Dalton, 18 Caitlin Smith, 19 Ellie Noble (6 Layla Proctor, 72). Substitutes (not used): 23 Olivia Francis, 26 Arabella Suttie.

Goals: Papaioannou 18, Noble 22, 66, Stephens 27, 49, Whitmore 28, 57.

Yellow cards: Proctor 76.

Argyle first team were without a match today. After other fixtures, the Pilgrims remain in the League One relegation zone.

The Under-18s suffered a disappointing three-goal defeat to Cambridge United on Saturday morning. The U's three points continued their positive start to the EFL Youth Alliance South season, thanks to goals from Daniel Efobi, Freddie Jolland and Samuel Okolie.

Despite Jack Flower's double save in the opening 10 minutes and Argyle having the first chance of the tie, through a Toby Maclean flicked effort from a corner, the Greens struggled to deal with Cambridge's forward progress through a lot of the game.

At the break, Jamie Lowry turned to his bench, bringing on Billy Devlin for Oscar Dean, with the latter just returning from a long-term injury.

The Greens were reduced to 10 men just 10 minutes into the half, however, when Devlin was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle in the middle of the pitch.

Head Coach Lowry said: "I'm a bit disappointed [with that performance]. It was nowhere near the acceptable levels that we expect from our group of players. We had no fight, no competitiveness, and no quality in possession throughout the 90 minutes.

"I think people sometimes underestimate how hard it is to be a footballer. You've got to have a bit of character, personality, and work hard. You've got to compete and do more than your opponent in games. Today, we turned up and didn't want to fight, battle with opponents, sprint forward, or do all the hard parts.

"We kept it short and sweet at the end and told them it was an unacceptable performance."

Argyle: 1 Jack Flower, 2 Jovan Wamani (16 Frankie Maund, 75), 3 Malachi Davy (12 Ollie Legg, 70), 4 Oscar Dean (capt) (14 Billy Devlin, half-time), 5 Toby Haley, 6 Toby Maclean, 7 Tashall Sandhu, 8 Sam Lord, 9 James Sharpe, 10 Seb Campbell, 11 Kian Burch. Substitutes: 23 Leo McCormick (gk), 15 Joel Tolcher.

Yellow cards: Sharpe 28, Campbell 90+3.

Red card: Devlin 55.

Argyle Women's striker Tianna Tiesar, came on as a 90th minute substitute in Wales's friendly against Australia which they lost 1-2.

24th

First-team player, Caleb Roberts, is 20 today. And former coach, Wayne Rooney turns 40.

23rd

Happy 24th birthday to super-striker, Laurent Tolaj. Hope he can reward himself with a goal and three points for the team tonight.

Joe Edwards captains the Argyle team against Exeter on what is his 250th appearance for the side.

Argyle fell to a desperate, televised Devon Derby defeat against Exeter City at St James Park on Thursday evening, plummeting them into the relegation zone and leading to calls for Tom Cleverley to be replaced. Goals in each half from Reece Cole and Akeel Higgins, respectively, proved the difference between the two sides on the night.

Argyle: Hazard, Wiredu (Dale), Paterson, Edwards (Mumba), Tolaj, Mitchell (Ross), Boateng, Galloway, Ibrahim (Roberts), Pepple (Oseni), Sorinola. Substitutes: Ashby-Hammond, Szucs.

22nd

Happy birthday to first-team coach, Kevin Nanckivell. Nance is 54 today.

21st

First-team player, Bradley Ibrahim is 21 today - happy birthday!

20th

Women's Head Coach Marie Hourihan was delighted with her side's away performance against an unbeaten Watford side yesterday, and credited all players and staff for getting the job done.

"We came in today with a real intent and appetite to win the game," Hourihan told Argyle TV. "Our league fixture here, four or five weeks ago, provided us with a lot of learning, and I thought we got our game plan spot on today. We were aggressive both with and without the ball, and I think we dominated all areas of the game.

"The only slight disappointment, for me, was that it wasn't more than three goals. We certainly had a lot of opportunities in the second half, but I have to say, from minute one, the team were excellent across the board. The starters and finishers, who also came on, executed everything perfectly, so I'm really pleased.

"For us, it's now about beating these bigger teams around us. We played Bournemouth last weekend and were really disappointed coming away from the game with just a point. We felt that we could have been a bit more creative in that final third to get that goal, so we really wanted to come today and execute that final part of our play, and we did that to excellent effect.

Argyle Women have drawn Oxford United at home in the second round of the FA Women's National League Cup. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, 9 November,

19th

Head Coach, Tom Cleverley, blamed 'tentativeness' for Argyle failing to capitalise on their early lead against AFC Wimbledon yesterday.

"I have an overriding feeling of disappointment," he said, "and I think that comes from two games on the trot now where we've taken the lead against difficult structures to break down: a 5-3-2 and a 5-4-1.

"The hardest thing is taking the lead, and breaking that down. To then come away with only one point out of the two games is hugely disappointing.

"It's not like our goal's been battered down by either side; we've not shown enough resilience to small amounts of pressure, conceding a combination of three goals that means one point from the two games, and that needs a lot of work.

"Home records and defensive records are where success and consistency is built, and we're nowhere near it in both departments at the minute.

Argyle Woman notched up a superb victory in the first round of the FA Women's National League Cup with a 3-0 away win against league leaders, Watford, who had beaten them in the league only two weeks previously.

Olivia Francis' brace and Tianna Teisar's goal propelled the Greens to a comfortable and professional victory against the Golden Girls at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium.

Confident play was on show from Marie Hourihan's side from the get-go, with multiple chances coming in front of goal for the Greens' frontline.

Argyle now progress into the last 16 of the competition. The draw for the second round will take place tomorrow evening.

Argyle: 1 Hermione Cull, 6 Layla Proctor, 9 Phoebie Poole, 11 Roisin Kivel (capt), 16 Ella Stephens, 17 Paris Dalton (15 Tamara Wilcock, 80), 18 Caitlin Smith, 19 Ellie Noble (8 Imy Crawford, 88), 23 Olivia Francis, 24 Tianna Teisar (7 Charlotte Whitmore, 73), 26 Arabella Suttit. Substitutes: 21 Eilish Brogan (gk), 2 Katie Dickson, 5 Giota Papaioannou, 14 Katie Wilson.

Goals: Francis 45, 52, Teisar 49.

Argyle players will wear special warm-up tops in support of Kick It Out, the group which tackles all forms of discrimination in football, before today's game against AFC Wimbledon at Home Park.

It is part of the club's support for the EFL's Together Against Racism campaign, as well as Hate Crime Awareness Week, which is a national week of action to to encourage communities, local authorities, police forces and other key partners to work together to tackle local hate crime issues.

Argyle were defeated 2-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon, despite taking the lead early in the game. Lorent Tolaj's early goal gave the Greens hope, but by half-time Wimbledon had equalised through Omar Bugiel, and got what proved to be the winner through Marcus Browne early in the second period.

Argyle: Hazard, Ross, Wiredu, Edwards (Sorinola), Tolaj, Mumba, Mitchell, Oseni (Pepple), Boateng, McCabe (Paterson), Ibrahim (Finn). Substitutes (not used): Ashby-Hammond, Benarous, Galloway.

Argyle have confirmed that Head of Recruitment, Tom Randle, is leaving the club by mutual consent.

Randle joined the club on a consultancy basis in March, and then joined permanently in May, overseeing a busy summer transfer window that saw 18 players depart and 13 arrive.

He had previously spent time with Houston Dynamo in the MLS, and prior to that worked at Cercle Brugge, Rotherham United, Norwich City and Crystal Palace.

Head of Football Operations David Fox, commented: "Tom worked incredibly hard over the summer as we underwent a period of transition, and I want to thank him for his efforts as replacing the numbers we have done was not an easy task.

"However, with the evolving demands of the role, it is vital that we have a Head of Recruitment who is visible around the football club, and will be ever present at Home Park Stadium and at matches.

"For personal reasons Tom cannot commit to being in Plymouth more permanently, and therefore we have mutually decided to part ways."

Recruitment for a replacement is already under way, and Tom will continue to work his notice period to ensure a smooth transition moving forward.

Argyle Under-18s have drawn Mangotsfield United FC at home in the opening round of the FA Youth Cup.

The tie which must take place before 1 November will take place at Home Park, kicking off at 7pm, date to be confirmed.

Last season, Jame Lowry's side reached the quarter finals of the competition, losing to Aston Villa at Villa Park, but picked up exciting wins over Everton, Lincoln City and Carlisle United in previous rounds.

Today is the third anniversary of the death of Sir Gordon Sparks. We miss him.

15th

Argyle Women's on-loan striker, Tianna Tiesar, has been called up up to the Wales senior squad for their forthcoming friendlies against Australia and Poland.

14th

Mike Stowell has joined Argyle as the new Goalkeeping Coach.

The 60-year-old has extensive experience, having spent 16 years at Leicester City, mainly as the Foxes goalkeeping coach but also had six periods in caretaker charge as well.

He was goalkeeping coach during Leicester's incredible Premier League title-winning season in 2015-16, and worked with an array of top-level goalkeepers during his time at the club.

Stowell also spent time with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel as they won the league title and reached the last 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League. He has most recently been working with Bristol City Women on a short-term basis.

Tom Cleverley commented: "Mike impressed us all greatly with his knowledge and experience during the recruitment process.

"He is someone I know following my loan spell with Leicester City as a player, and he will add real expertise to my technical staff, both from a goalkeeping and wider coaching perspective.

"I was insistent in the summer on bringing the right players to Argyle, and it is no different with staff members. I am really pleased we have managed to bring a coach of Mike's calibre to the club."

Head of Football Operations, David Fox, added: "Mike had incredible longevity at a top football club like Leicester City which shows just how good a coach he is.

"He will bring vast knowledge to the role and work closely with our talented crop of goalkeepers in Conor, Luca and Zak to continue their growth and development.

"He will complement the wider technical staff perfectly and has really bought into what we are trying to achieve here at Argyle. I want to welcome him to the club and look forward to working with him closely moving forward."

13th

The first team away fixture against Mansfield Town which was postponed due to Argyle's three international call ups has been rearranged for Tuesday 28 October ko 7.45. Tickets for the original game are still valid: if fans cannot go, they can claim a refund by returning their ticket to the Box Office.

Argyle will be away to Wycombe Wanderers in the first round proper of the FA Cup. Ties will be played during the weekend of 1 November.

The only time Argyle and Wycombe have previously met in the FA Cup was in the 1998/99 season, in the second round. Kevin Hodges' Argyle drew 1-1 in the away game, then won 3-2 at Home Park in the replay.

Argyle Women's Head Coach, Marie Hourihan, reacted to yesterday's 0-0 draw against Bournemouth.

"We've not lost the game," Hourihan told Argyle TV. "We've taken a point and we keep our unbeaten run here going at Home Park.

"I thought we were excellent from the outset. The intent was to compete. We knew Bournemouth's main threats across their top line and how it can be quite transitional, so we needed to control that. I thought we did really well.

"After the first five to 10 minutes, we settled into the game, exerted good control, and got into some fantastic areas. It was probably just the final details and decision making in those areas that we didn't get necessarily right and missed out on the outcomes we wanted.

"I think we came out with the same intent, in the second half, and probably similarly mirrored the first, in the sense that they probably had a 10-minute spell towards the end of the game where they came into the ascendancy a little bit.

"You've got to give credit to both defences. In terms of defending the box, both sides were very good at that with bodies on the line, clearances, picking up second balls, and being in and around the right areas. But again, for us, it's progress.

"Since I've come into this football club, it is about us going into games with real intent, a certain control, and asserting our influence over the game, and I feel we're doing that to a really good effect. We have to take the positives out of the game into next weekend's cup game against Watford, which again will be a similarly tight and difficult game for us."

12th

Argyle Women and Bournemouth Women played out a 0-0 draw at Home Park in front of a crowd of almost 1,500. However, this was by no means a boring game. It was a great spectacle of FA Women's National League football. Despite there being no goals and the points being shared, both sides hunted, caused issues for their opponents, and had chances in front of goal over the 90+9 minutes of football.

The result means that Argyle drop to fourth in the table as there were wins for Watford and Real Bedford Ladies. Argyle are on 14 points with the best goal difference (+16) in the league.

Argyle are away to league leaders, Watford Women next Sunday.

11th

Argyle Under-18s suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon to Leyton Orient in the EFL Youth Alliance League South.

Tajuddin Bello's first-half goal handed the visiting side three points at Millennium Fields, whilst the Greens struggled to find the clinical edge needed in front of goal to get back into the game.

Head Coach, Jamie Lowry, said: "I'm very disappointed. We didn't do enough to get over the line. We had lots of momentum in the game and opportunities in the final third, but lacked a little bit of quality and willingness to get back in the game. We'd huff and puff without really causing enough problems.

"A few lads did really well... We lacked intensity and that determination to win a game of football, which is part of why the result ended in the way it did.

"We'll reflect on it and watch it back. The boys will clip it, and we'll review it again on Monday. We just didn't do enough today, it's as simple as that."

Argyle: 1 Jack Flower (gk), 2 Jovan Wamani, 3 Joe Mwaro (capt), 4 Sam Lord, 5 Ollie Legg, 6 Toby Haley (14 Malachi Davy, half-time), 7 Tashall Sandhu, 8 Seb Campbell (15 Oscar Dean, 62), 9 Frankie Maund, 10 Fletcher Poole (16 James Sharpe, half-time), 11 Kian Burch. Substitutes: 23 Tom Armytage (gk), 12 Kye Chapple.

Argyle Women's Head Coach Marie Hourihan, was delighted with her side's three points at Cheltenham Town on Sunday.

"We knew coming into the game today that it would be a really difficult game," she told Argyle TV. "Coming to their home venue, where they've got a really good record, we knew it would be a battle, and I think the first 15 to 20 minutes certainly proved that. It took us that little bit of time to adjust, but I felt that towards the latter end of the first half, we started to establish a little more control.

"We had a disallowed goal, but then, just before half-time, we took the lead, which settled us. Going into the second half, it was about managing the game, and I thought we did that brilliantly.

"Not everything's always going to go your way in football. It's about how much grit and determination you show and doing the basics really well. I think, in the second half, we did that superbly. The main positive for me is that we've come away from a difficult place, where a lot of teams find it challenging, with the three points."

Argyle Women have been drawn against Maidstone United in the first round proper of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.

The Greens' first game of the competition is scheduled to be played on the weekend of 25 and 26 October, with Argyle hosting the Stones at Home Park - who are playing their first game in the competition this millennium.

Forward Olivia Francis has been voted Argyle Women's Player of the Month for September.

She found the back of the net four times in five games, and helped contribute further with many assists for the remaining 17 goals scored by the Greens in the month.

Olivia won the supporters' poll with 36% of the vote, ahead of Ellie Noble (26%), Caitlin Smith (21%), and Roisin Kivel (17%).

Former Argyle defender, Nikola Katic, who now plays for German club, Schalke, has been hailed a hero for saving an opponent's life. In the game against Arminia Belfeld, Arminia's Joel Grodowski clashed with Schalke keeper Karius, through an accidental punch as the keeper attempted to clear a high cross.

Grodowski collapsed unconscious to the turf and swallowed his tongue. Katic swiftly placed the forward in the recovery position and pulled the 27-year-old's tongue out of his throat.

Grodowski soon came around, and embraced Katic before leaving the field.

Tom Cleverley expressed his frustration at his team's performance against Ryan Lowe's Wigan, as he watched from the directors' box where he saw out the second of his two-match suspension.

"I think it sums our season up a little bit in terms of 'just not there yet'," said Cleverley after the match. "We didn't do quite enough to win the game.

"I don't think there was enough urgency or enough ownership. [We didn't say] 'I'm going to take this game by the scruff of the neck, we're going to set the tone and we're going go and win it.'

"The really disappointing thing is we managed to find ourselves 1-0 up - which was probably a little bit fortunate - and then you have to win the game. It's one of those scruffy games that you need to win in a successful season.

"It was a game that you could argue should have finished 0-0. I don't think either team looked like they had the ambition - I don't want to say quality; there's a lot of good players out there - but ambition to go and win the game.

"I didn't think [Wigan] did enough to break us down today. The opening for the goal, we certainly gave them with a lack of conviction in our clearances. To concede the goal in the manner we did, everyone's really disappointed with that.

"Wigan showed us a lot of respect. Their team has always played with two strikers; they put an extra midfielder in there, they sat off us, and we just didn't have the urgency or final product to break that down. Now it is difficult conditions, I understand, but where we want to get to is winning these kinds of games.

"Listen, it's a really genuine group of players in there. They always try their best for the football club, but I think there's still another 20% we can unlock. That's a mentality of wanting to dominate and really take the game to teams who are going to come here, pay us respect and sit in a little bit.

The first draw of Argyle's season came at home to Wigan, as they and the Greens managed one goal and one point each. The two sides came into the game in adjacent positions in the table, separated only by a marginally better goal difference for the Latics. In a staccato affair at Home Park, still neither asserted any superiority. It was Argyle who took the lead with 20 minutes of the game remaining, from a Lorent Tolaj penalty, but Fraser Murray hit back to make it 1-1 on 83 minutes, and so the match stayed.

A late Sam Lord strike won Argyle their Under-18s Professional Development League Cup game on Saturday afternoon against AFC Bournemouth at Millennium Fields.

The visitors initially took the lead in PL2, but a headed goal from Kian Burch in the first half and a finish in the dying moments from Lord handed the Greens three points in the competition.

Head Coach Jamie Lowry said: "Saturday was a really good and disciplined performance from the lads. I was pleased with how patient we were out of possession and, overall, how disciplined they were was outstanding. I think we fully deserved to get a late winner with how we played.

"I'm pleased with how we played when we went forward, and maybe also had some opportunities as well to take the lead earlier on, but it was a really good performance. Hopefully, we can use that as a potential catalyst to kick on now."

Argyle have appointed Paul Berne as their new Chief Executive Officer, in succession to Andrew Parkinson who stepped down last month. The 51-year-old will take up his new role on 1 January.

Berne has been on the Argyle board of directors since 2019. He was most recently CEO at Trewithen Dairy and brings extensive experience across finance and operations. Previously, he worked at club partners Ginsters for four and a half years as Finance Director and had a further two years at their parent company Samworth Brothers in a similar role. Prior to that, he held high-level roles at Well Pharmacy, the Co-operative Pharmacy, and the wider Co-operative Group.

Paul Berne said: "It is a privilege to take up this role with Argyle.

"Having been involved at Board level since 2019, I have seen first-hand the transformation the club has been under both on and off the pitch under Andrew's leadership.

"I now have the opportunity to continue that work using my background and expertise, and help Argyle continue to excel.

"The club has huge potential, and it is now my job to help realise our ambitions to be a sustainable Championship club.

"While I don't officially start until 1 January, I'll be around the club a lot, transitioning from my role as a Director to Chief Executive. In the interim, the club's Executive Team, along with my fellow board directors, will continue to oversee day-to-day activities."

Argyle chairman Simon Hallett said: "Paul brings a wealth of experience to the role having held several high-level positions across a range of sectors. He has been an important and valued board member since 2019 and will now step into a permanent role with the club following Andrew's departure.

"He will bring a freshness and energy to the role that will lift the whole club as we continue the rebuild both on and off the pitch. I want to welcome Paul to Argyle in his new role and look forward to seeing him build on the excellent work Andrew implemented before him."

They have played a hugely important role in developing players across the region, and the fact that so many of our current Academy players have come through their programme highlights the quality of their work.
