Greens on Screen started its life in 1999 before many of the football sites that we are familiar with today, including Plymouth Argyle's own official site. Greens on Screen is dedicated to the sights, sounds and history of Plymouth Argyle Football club. It is owned and run by the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive, a charity dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and display of the heritage of our great football club.

The site owes its existence to Steve Dean.Without Steve's dedication and commitment for over 25 years, GoS would not exist and be the valued and loved resource for all football fans that it is today. The site is truly the envy of many clubs, and we owe a huge debt to Steve for his tireless work, and continued support behind the scenes.

Greens on Screen's first page was published in January 1999. Its early purpose was to bring Plymouth Argyle a little closer to those unable to see their team, and whilst it has changed a great deal over the years, its core themes - sights and sounds for Westcountry exiles - still stand. The site was very lucky to take on the content of Trevor Scallan's Semper Viridis in the summer of 2007, and in 2009 launched GoS-DB, a wealth of facts and figures from PAFC's history. A year later, we embarked on a complete history of Argyle, with much-valued contributions from chapter authors. Greens on Screen was taken over by its new custodians, The Argyle Archive, in 2024.

Greens on Screen is an amateur website and proud of it. It is run by a team of volunteers from the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive (Argyle Archive). Without the hard work and much-valued contributions of these volunteers, running the site would not be possible. Greens on Screen is self-taught and as a result, a little bit quirky.

Greens on Screen remains advertisement free, which means we are grateful for the generous support of our donors and the work of our volunteers to help keep it free of promotions. If you would like to support the work of Greens on Screen, please consider donating to the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive.

GoS's sole aim is to be a service to fellow supporters, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate Argyle's history for many years to come.

Last season's shirt sponsor, Bond Timber are set to become Argyle's new training wear partner.

The Cornish timber brand has been supporting the Club for a number of years prior to the 2023-24 season, particularly between 2011 and 2014, during one of Argyle's darkest periods.

18th

Argyle striker, Ben Waine, scored twice in New Zealand's 3-0 win over the Solomon Islands in the OFC Nations Cup. Ben netted a double within the first 12 minutes of the game before being substituted in the 65th minute.

The All Whites next play Vanuatu on Friday 21 June.

Will Jenkins Davies has signed a one-year contract extension with Argyle.

The 19-year-old midfielder spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Torquay United, making 33 appearances and scoring seven goals, despite missing part of the season with a knee injury.

The creative midfielder has played 11 times for Argyle's first team and will be looking to add to that appearance tally in the upcoming season.

After penning his contract, Jenkins Davies said: "I am buzzing. All I have known is Argyle since I was young. I joined the club when I was seven, and it is a club that has nurtured me all the way through to this stage.

"I learned a lot from my time at Torquay last season, it is not only about ability but also about character and determination which we had to show in abundance after a difficult season.

"I ... can't wait for pre-season to start to get the ball back at my feet. I am really thankful to be able to continue my development here."

Argyle first-team coach and Head of Player Development Kevin Nancekivell added: "Will performed well in difficult circumstances last season at Torquay.

"He knows there is still lots of room for growth and development to become an integral part of the squad, but we are really looking forward to continuing to work with him for another year.

"He has all the attributes to be successful and it is up to him now to build on the hard work he has already put in and get better and better."

Another two young Academy products have signed professional contracts with Argyle. Jack Matthews and Josh Bernard have joined Freddie Issaka and Caleb Roberts in officially stepping up to the senior ranks next term.

Midfielder Bernard's story is an amazing one. He was not offered a scholarship with Argyle's Academy Under-18s team, but instead joined Argyle Community Trust's football education programme. Such was his development and application, he was given the chance to play for the Under-18s, making his first appearance in March 2023.

After signing his contract, Bernard said: "An amazing moment for me and my family. I would have never expected this to happen from where I was.

"Just two years ago I had given up football and started labouring but knew that wasn't what I wanted to do and joined the Argyle Community Trust programme. That gave me a chance to study and still play football, and fortunately I impressed and got a chance with the Academy.

"I've always had an extra hunger to reach this position and I know this is a big moment, but the dream doesn't stop here. I want to impress and be involved in the first-team squad. I know the Gaffer likes to give young players an opportunity and it is now up to me to try and impress in pre-season."

Cornishman Jack Matthews has generally played in central defence for the Under-18s, but will frequently fill in other positions, notably in central midfield, where his comfortable ball-carrying abilities stand him in good stead.

His calmness, maturity and flexibility meant he was included in the senior squad for much of the last pre-season build up, and his consistent performances have now earned him a professional contract.

Matthews commented: "It is the best feeling ever. A real dream come true for me and my family. I remember watching Argyle as a kid at Home Park and now I'll hopefully be the one running out there for the first team.

"I know that the hard work starts now, and I need to impress when pre-season starts.

"I have been working hard for the past few weeks to make sure I am ready and hit the ground running, and I just can't wait to join back up with the squad."

12th

Argyle have appointed Pete Shuttleworth as Assistant Head Coach. The 45-year-old will join Wayne Rooney's backroom team together with first-team coaches Kevin Nancekivell and Simon Ireland, and goalkeeping coach Daryl Flahavan.

Shuttleworth worked closely with Wayne at Birmingham City, D.C. United and Derby County. He also recently formed part of Republic of Ireland Interim Head Coach John O'Shea's backroom staff for their games against Hungary and Portugal.

Argyle Head Coach Rooney said: "Pete is someone who I have known for a long time having worked together at previous football clubs.

"He is an excellent coach with footballing ideals that match mine and Argyle's but is also an outstanding motivator and has a real knowledge of tactical and performance analysis.

"Ultimately, he is a great person who holds all the values that the football club and I look for and he will complement our current group of coaching staff perfectly.

Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip, added: "We are thrilled that Pete has agreed to join Argyle as Assistant Head Coach.

"He is someone Wayne has worked with closely in the past and a coach who we feel will further strengthen our existing staff here at Argyle and complement them perfectly.

"Plans are well underway for pre-season, and I can't wait for all the players and staff to come back together at the start of July as we look ahead to next season."

Mustapha Bundu started for the Sierra Leone side in their World Cup qualifying match against Djibouti last night: Sierra Leone won 2-1.

5th

Argyle have announced their pre-season schedule, which includes four away fixtures. Because of the extensive work being done to the Home Park pitch, none of the pre-season matches will take place there.

The games are:

Cheltenham Town (A) - Saturday, 20 July, 3pm

Torquay United (A) - Saturday, 27 July, 3pm

Away fixture to be announced – Tuesday, 30 July

Milton Keynes Dons (A) – Saturday, 3 August, 3pm

Before that, the squad will head to Marbella in Spain for a training camp which will last nine days - from 7 to 16 July - and is scheduled to include at least one fixture, still to be confirmed.

The new Championship season will begin on the weekend of 9-11 August.

Four Argyle players have been called for international duty during the summer break.

Mustpha Bundu is in the Sierra Leonean squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Djibouti and Burkina Faso. The striker already has 14 caps for his country.

Defender, Brendan Galloway, has been included in the Zimbabwean squad for their World Cup qualifiers Zimbabwe play Lesotho and South Africa within the next week.

'Keeper, Conor Hazard, has again been selected for Northern Ireland for a pair of friendlies against Spain and Andorra in preparation for the next UEFA Nations League campaign, which starts in September.

And Ben Waine, will have a busy summer. The striker is in the New Zealand squad for the Oceania competition between 15 and 30 June which the All Whites have won five times. The last edition, scheduled for 2020, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning Waine's side are looking to defend the title they won eight years ago.

New Zealand have been drawn into Group A with New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, who are co-hosting the tournament with Fiji.
