Greens on Screen started its life in 1999 before many of the football sites that we are familiar with today, including Plymouth Argyle's own official site. Greens on Screen is dedicated to the sights, sounds and history of Plymouth Argyle Football club. It is owned and run by the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive, a charity dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and display of the heritage of our great football club.

The site owes its existence to Steve Dean. Without Steve's dedication and commitment for over 25 years, GoS would not exist and be the valued and loved resource for all football fans that it is today. The site is truly the envy of many clubs, and we owe a huge debt to Steve for his tireless work, and continued support behind the scenes.

Greens on Screen's first page was published in January 1999. Its early purpose was to bring Plymouth Argyle a little closer to those unable to see their team, and whilst it has changed a great deal over the years, its core themes - sights and sounds for Westcountry exiles - still stand. The site was very lucky to take on the content of Trevor Scallan's Semper Viridis in the summer of 2007, and in 2009 launched GoS-DB, a wealth of facts and figures from PAFC's history. A year later, we embarked on a complete history of Argyle, with much-valued contributions from chapter authors. Greens on Screen was taken over by its new custodians, The Argyle Archive, in 2024.

Greens on Screen is an amateur website and proud of it. It is run by a team of volunteers from the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive (Argyle Archive). Without the hard work and much-valued contributions of these volunteers, running the site would not be possible. Greens on Screen is self-taught and as a result, a little bit quirky.

Greens on Screen remains advertisement free, which means we are grateful for the generous support of our donors and the work of our volunteers to help keep it free of promotions. If you would like to support the work of Greens on Screen, please consider donating to the Plymouth Argyle Heritage Archive.

GoS's sole aim is to be a service to fellow supporters, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate Argyle'ss history for many years to come.

As reported last week (diary 24 June), Argyle have now confirmed the signing of 24-year-old midfielder, Harvey White, from Stevenage on a free transfer. Harvey played 50 times for Stevenage last season, scoring six goals. He was offered a new deal in Hertfordshire, but has opted to come to Devon on a three-year contract.

Kent-born White came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, playing nine times for the in the EFL Trophy, as well as one appearance each in the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.

He had a loan spell with Portsmouth, in League One, in the second half of the 2020-21 season, playing 22 games. He had a similar loan with Derby County, two seasons later, playing 15 times, before moving to Stevenage in 2023 where he had 118 appearances in all.

"I'm really pleased that we have secured Harvey's signing," said Head Coach Tom Cleverley. "I saw him play several times last season, including against us, and he impressed me with how well he used the ball, how he reads the game, and how much he influences play.

"He is left-footed, has very good set-piece delivery, and I am looking forward to working with him."

Argyle Director of Football Derek Adams added: "The addition of Harvey complements our other midfielders nicely.

"At 24, he has some experience under his belt, and still has scope to develop even further."

The first-team squad report back for pre-season fitting testing today. Among them was attacking midfielder, Michael Baidoo, for whom Argyle paid in excess of 1m from Elfsborg in 2024, but who was not released to play until early 2025 when he had five starts and eight substitute appearances for the Greens until Miron Muslic. He then went on loan to Qatari Stars League side Umm Salal, where he spent the whole of the 2025-26 campaign. He is now back at Home Park where he is under contract until 2028.

Argyle have signed goalkeeper James Storer from Wolves on a two-year contract from 1 July, with the option of a third.

The 21-year-old, a product of the Wolves academy, has had a series of loans, including in the National League North with Chester and, last season, at Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton, where he won the club's Young Player of the Year award. He is the former Republic of Ireland Under-19 'keeper.

Tom Cleverley said: "James is a good shot-stopper, and has a good eye for distribution. He had a really good season with Morton, and we think he think he has great development in front of him.

"I spoke to several people I know who James has worked with, and they spoke very highly of his attitude and ability. It's good to have him on board."

Derek Adams, Director of Football, added: "James is very experienced for someone of his age, and he is already a very good goalkeeper.

"He is the first addition this summer to what we believe will be a very strong goalkeeping unit, and is someone who we believe we can develop over the period of time he is with us. I'm very pleased he agreed to join us."

Ginsters are to be Argyle's training wear partner for 2026-27.

Ginsters, who have been associated with the Pilgrims for over 20 years now, first became sponsors in 2002, some 24 years ago. They are also Argyle's principal partner in Project35.

Five former players with a combined 1,500 appearances for Argyle-Tommy Tynan, Chris Harrison, Mick Heathcote, Mickey Evans, Romain Larrieu, Martin Barlow, Steve McCall and Kevin Hodges-shared their memories of being at the club at a hilarious and nostalgic event staged by the Green Taverners, along with comedian and Argyle fan, Josh Widdicombe who hosted the event.

Argyle will face Swindon Town, Newport County and one Premier League under-21 side in the group stage of the 2026/27 EFL Trophy.

The final Group E opponent will be found out on Thursday, 25 June, when the remaining Premier League under-21 sides are drawn live on Sky Sports, from 2.30pm. Argyle will be drawn with one of: Arsenal, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Ipswich Town or Tottenham Hotspur.

The contract offer made to midfielder Joe Ralls has now expired. An agreement could still be reached but this would have to be on new terms.

Midfielder Callum Wright has moved to Scottish Premiership side, Hibernian, after the expiration of his contract with Argyle. Callum was on loan last season at Wigan Athletic.

John Lucas has returned to Home Park at on-pitch performance coach. John was previously with the Greens during Ryan Lowe's tenure 2019-20.

He left in 2021, for Salford City, and later went on to rejoin Lowe at Preston North End as head of physical performance. He then spent some time in Australia with Perth Glory, and now returns to England for a second stint with the Greens.

"It was a no-brainer for me," John told Argyle TV. "I think people that know me know what I thought of the place. It's a special club, special city. Very unique, especially when you've been to a few other football clubs. I'm excited to be back.

"[Head Coach Tom Cleverley] is part of the reason why I've come. I sat with him for a couple of hours and was really, really impressed with his methodology, with how he came across, with how he wants to work, how he sees the staff within that system of his philosophy, his wider football philosophy, and how our relationship would be."

19th

Forever Green held their successful annual golf day at Staddon Heights. The highlight was a hole in one by former player, John Peddelty, who scored a hole in one and was given a hastily arranged trophy for his achievement.

It has been rumoured that talks between Argyle and former Oxford loanee, Owen Dale, have broken down over wage levels.

16th

Matt Green has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Argyle Women's team.

Matt has been a coach with Argyle for many years, was Assistant Head Coach last season, and has been in charge of overseeing the Argyle Women's Player Pathway.

He will be supported by Argyle Director of Football Derek Adams, Assistant Head Coach Jon Dawe and further support staff.

"I am delighted to be given the role of Head Coach," said Matt. "I have been involved with the Argyle Women's team for many years, and it is an honour to be given the chance to take charge of the team.

"With Derek overviewing the project, I am very confident we will be able to steer Argyle Women into next season and beyond."

Argyle have issued a statement about their proposal for the future of the Women's team, including a delayed apology for the 'Hi All...' email.

Firstly, we accept that the way we handled breaking the news to the players was poor, and for that we apologise.

We want to assure supporters that the women's team still has a place at Argyle, will compete in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division this season, and will be supported by a long-term strategy.

Our revised approach is designed around two key aspects. One is to ensure that we grow our team and structure sustainably, in line with the current trajectory of the women's game. The second is to give more opportunities to local players and staff, with a view to longer-term development.

We have invested in Foulston Park, a superb facility for the women's team and the Academy, and it will play a vital role in how we develop our future. This will, in time, be our permanent training base, and a hub for the organisational aspects of the team. We will continue to play home fixtures at Home Park, where possible.

We have many excellent young players in our player pathway, and are excited to give them the opportunities to develop, and shine. We intend to recruit smartly to augment what we have, and to give ourselves a chance to be competitive.

15th

The transfer window opens today and closes on 1 September at 2300.

And Argyle have made their first window signing with Wes Harding agreeing a two-year deal to return to Home Park. The defender was on loan from Millwall for three months at the end of last season. Wes has also been made vice-captain.

"We are thrilled to bring Wes to the football club on a permanent basis," said Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley. "He brings an abundance of experience, quality and leadership that we all saw during the second half of the season, helping the team improve significantly.

"We value what Wes will bring both on and off the pitch, which is one of the reasons we have named him as the club's vice-captain."

PASALB (the Argyle Supporters London Branch) issued a critical statement about the treatment of the Women's team and its response to fans' disquiet, calling for the Club to issue a full apology.

Former Argyle stars, Karl Duguid and Luke McCormick were in action as England Seniors beat Taiwan 4-1 in the Seniors World Cup to go top of their group.

News about the email sent to the Women's team reached the national press and broadcasters, including the BBC:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c0r2lgv0ny2o

In response to this negative publicity and to the growing outcry among Argyle fans, the Club eventually issued a statement which acknowledged errors in communication but stopped short of an apology: https://www.pafc.co.uk/news/club-statement-argyle-women

However, this did little to mollify the unease, as it appeared to be shifting responsibility onto the departed Head Coach, Marie Hourihan. The reasons behind the decision and the position of CEO, Paul Berne, were questioned.

The Argyle Fans' Trust (AFT) put out a statement which can be read by following this link on their Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/TheArgyleTrust
