Exeter went in front but Frankie Maund's header and a late goal from Toby Rider left Argyle victorious under the lights. Led by Dan Thompson, they defeated Stockport County 1-0 in the National Final, after the two teams qualified through the group of regional finalists, which included Preston North End, Barnsley, and Cardiff City. Stockport actually topped the group, with Argyle claiming second spot thanks to victories over Preston and Cardiff, as well as draws with Barnsley and the Hatters. The Greens came out victorious when it mattered, with the impressive feat of not conceding a goal in all five games. Academy Manager Phil Stokes said: "This is a fantastic achievement to win the Under-13s EFL national final, out of 52 Category 2 and 3 Academies. Credit must go to all the players and Academy staff; the dedication, hard work, and commitment shown across the programme have been outstanding, and it's great to see that recognised with success on a national stage." Head Coach Thompson said: "I'm incredibly proud of how the players have performed across all three stages of the competition from the South West qualifiers, through the Southern Regional final, and into the national final. Their consistency, attitude, and willingness to learn have been outstanding throughout."

"...now that we've played the final game this season and have finished on 52 points, we just have to reflect on what a monumental achievement it is," Hourihan told Argyle TV. "To go from 20 points last season to 52, in the space of time that we've done it in, is phenomenal. "The second-half performance was excellent. The first half, not so much. "I think some choice words at half-time were said, but the players reacted well. Our intensity levels were so much better in that second half, and all-round energy as well. The pitch was a little bit sticky; we needed to move the ball quicker. The combinations we had, especially in the final third, the timing of our runs, and everything really, were a lot better and well-coordinated. "To score four goals, with two or three of them being superb team goals as well, was really pleasing and now we need to carry that into next week's play-off game." Argyle will face Wolves Women on Monday 4 May, at the Pirelli Stadium, ko 1pm. 26th
"Obviously one action can change the whole dynamic of the afternoon, where it then becomes about real grittiness, determination," he said. "What I ask our goalkeepers to do, covering the balls over the top, allows you to keep a high defensive line, I have to understand the risk that comes with that. Conor will know that he's made a poor decision in terms of getting under the ball, but I ask our goalkeepers to cover the depth that has a little bit of risk attached to it. "I have to accept that those mistakes may happen once a season. Conor will be disappointed with the action, but I have to accept some responsibility for that as well. "It's never easy as a second-choice goalkeeper to prepare and to be ready, but Luca's training levels, his mentality, to make sure in our biggest game of the season to come on and look so assured and calm when called upon was brilliant. He was outstanding. "I always thought leaving the two strikers on would create enough. It's just would they get down the sides of us too easily and create enough themselves? We had to roll the dice today, because we needed to win. "Fortunately, the two strikers were always a threat, and the work rate of the team was outstanding. "The challenges are, can you still hold a threat? I thought we could with the two boys up front. Can you reduce their box entries to a minimum? Which was a risk, because if you play 4-3-2 like we did, they can get down the outsides of you fairly easily can progress up the pitch. "And then I thought that the shift that the three lads Ronan, Mal and Dale did, and then Matty when he came on, was just outstanding for the team, doing a job of four players and when needed. "I thought, apart from the goal, we defended our box really well when we went down to 10 men."
Argyle will now face Wolves Women in the play-off to decide the second promotion place. Wolves have won 20 out of their 22 games, drawing and losing only to champions Burnley. The decider will be played on Monday 4 May at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium. 25th
Vale equalised shortly after and the game remained level at the interval. Until, up popped Pepple again on 47 minutes to give the Pilgrims a 2-1 lead. Despite an increasing number of Vale attacks, Argyle held firm. Urged on by the noise of the Green Army, they saw out the six added minutes for a much-needed win. Results elsewhere meant that Argyle - eighth on 70 points - are still in with a chance of the final play-off place. All is to be decided next Saturday when they travel to bottom side, Northampton Town where they need to win, and hope that Luton and Stevenage only draw or lose. Argyle: 1 Conor Hazard, 2 Mathias Ross (capt), 9 Lorent Tolaj, 15 Alex Mitchell, 17 Caleb Watts (21 Luca Ashby-Hammond, 7), 19 Malachi Boateng, 27 Bim Pepple (4 Brendan Wiredu, 73), 28 Ronan Curtis (29 Matty Sorinola, 66), 35 Owen Dale, 45 Wes Harding. Substitutes: 5 Julio Pleguezuelo, 10 Xavier Amaechi, 18 Owen Oseni, 23 Bradley Ibrahim. Goals: Pepple 3, 47 Sent off: Hazard 5 Booked: Dale 64, Wiredu 82 Attendance: 16,129 (355 away) At the end of the game, players, staff and families did a lap of the pitch to show their appreciated of the Green Army throughout the season which was enthusiastically reciprocated by the fans.

"We have value on the balance sheet so at some point we will get the right offer for a player but we literally have been over the budgets today and there is nothing in the budgets for player sales - nothing. "Just make that absolutely clear, but as ever if the right bid comes along for any player we will sell them. Now we are lucky that a number of our more valuable players have long contracts, which means we don't have to sell."
He has spent the season on loan to Umm Salal in the Qatar Stars League who have been covering the cost of all his wages.

"I think in general you'd be really pleased with, and proud of, that performance," he said. "The way that our supporters clapped us off, I think they were too. Coming here is not easy. They're a really physical team, excellent in duels, and I thought we dealt with the challenge really well. "I thought defensively we were outstanding, and then one action of the game, that was probably four or five [cost us]. "I'm proud of the players. Could we have showed a bit more quality in some openings? Yes, we were guilty of it at the weekend, but the application and the competitive nature of the group is second to none. "I'll see it as an opportunity missed [but then] I'll be fully focused on picking these lads up because they're disappointed and rightly so. They feel like they've drawn a game they should have won. "Stockport, Bradford, Luton, Stevenage are all catchable. Until they're not, there'll be no-one on the front foot more than me than making sure we do our best to make sure we do our job. "Strange things in football happen, and a lot stranger than us making four points on Stockport or Stevenage, or six points on Bradford who have got two tough games still to come. We're still in this. We've got a real live chance, but we have to focus on making sure we do our job." 21st
The result means that Argyle are now on 67 points and in eighth place - Luton having leapfrogged the Pilgrims by virtue of a 2-0 away win at relegated Rotherham. Argyle: 1 Conor Hazard, 2 Mathias Ross (capt), 4 Brendan Wiredu (17 Caleb Watts, 61), 9 Lorent Tolaj, 15 Alex Mitchell, 19 Malachi Boateng, 22 Brendan Galloway (29 Matty Sorinola, 29), 27 Bim Pepple, 28 Ronan Curtis, 35 Owen Dale (10 Xavier Amaechi, 80), 45 Wes Harding. This award celebrates an outstanding club, based on its commitment to the community and the impact they have within that community. Argyle Community Trust supported more than 101,000 people aged four months to 100 years, delivering more than one million contact hours. Key areas included food poverty relief through Project 35, targeted education and employability support, inclusive health and disability sessions, and new community provision in Foulston Park. Programmes such as Mum's Stay & Play, ACTing with Children, YEP! and Argyle 4 Autism expanded the Trust's reach across high‑need communities. Dwain Morgan, Head of Business Development at Argyle Community Trust, said: "We're over the moon to win the Award. There are charities and clubs up and down the country doing wonderful work and to be named the Community Club of the Year is really humbling. It's a really great end to a fantastic year."

He said: "First of all, huge result. I thought the players delivered the fundamentals really well. You have got to run, you have got to compete, you have got to duel, you have got to do your job at set plays to give you a foundation of being hard to beat in the game and I thought we did that. "We created a lot of turnovers in the first half, leading to dangerous moments and we were a little wasteful. Start to the game excellent, got them on the back foot, scored early from a set piece and then we should have been two or three going in at half-time with some of the openings we had. "I thought we dealt with going back to 1-1 very well. Made a substitute, reset and then kicked on which is brilliant mentality from the team. "I have got a real trust in our players being able to create (chances) at the minute. I think 23 shots away from home, nine on target, and that has pretty much been every game. "The key to the whole thing is the mentality of the players, the belief of the players, the togetherness of the players to come back from a setback is gold dust."
Bournemouth's 2-0 defeat at Lewes on Sunday afternoon means that the Cherries are six points behind Argyle, in second place, with just one game to go. Argyle, therefore, are confirmed to finish second in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, behind champions Watford, no matter the scores on the final game of the season, next weekend. The play-off pits the second-placed teams in the Southern and Northern divisions; Argyle will learn the identity of their opponents on Sunday 26 April, as Burnley who are currently top of the division, are only one point ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers, with one game remaining. Burnley are at home to Stoke City in their final fixture, while Wolves host Halifax Town. The play-off final will take place on Monday 4 May, at the Pirelli Stadium, home of Burton Albion.

An extremely positive opening 10 minutes from Jamie Lowry's side was topped off by the first goal of the game. but the next chaotic 21 minutes of play saw the visiting Gloucestershire side score four, with Argyle seemingly combusting. However, the Greens were not down and out. Two goals before half-time pulled Lowry's side to within one before the whistle blew for the break. Wind in their sails, Argyle came out after the interval, quickly found the equalising goal and, on the hour mark, the lead was finally regained. After a spell of substitutions two further goals gave the Greens a three-goal lead. A last-minute Cheltenham penalty-their only goal of the second half-came just before the full-time whistle but Argyle had won. 16th
Striker Bim Pepple has trained this week after missing the last two matches due to a calf issue, while central midfield duo Bradley Ibrahim (ankle) and Brendan Wiredu (abdominal) are both fit to start against Wimbledon. Also in contention is defender Julio Pleguezuelo, who has not played since the 1-0 defeat away to Rotherham United on February 28 because of a calf injury. 15th
Argyle were named EFL League One Community Club of the Season, while their pioneering Argyle 4 Autism programme was awarded League One Community Project of the Year celebrating its role as a vital intervention for neurodivergent children and families across Plymouth through the power of football. Co-created with first team players Joe Edwards and Julio Pleguezuelo, and supported by the Premier League and the PFA, the project addresses a critical local gap, with autism assessment waiting times in the region now exceeding two years. 14th

He said: "We try and create a game plan to connect with the supporters. I think that's what we have learnt through our difficult periods we were playing in areas where it is not entertaining, so we have adapted to that. "Now when you do that and it's blowing a gale, you can sometimes look like you have a real lack of quality, and at times it did. It looked really messy. "It looked like we maybe should have played on the floor, but even on the floor it was travelling really quick one way and getting held up another. I thought it would have been too high risk for the players so both teams suffered from a quality sense from conditions today." He added: "This group of players has overcome a lot of hurdles this season. It started off being the away form, then we conceded too many, and when we conceded first we never got any points, then the home form, then we are winning 1-0 but it's ugly. "Every box has been ticked. The one we have not is that game that takes us into the top six, performing in that one. "Life is about timing so if that one is Northampton away (on the last day of the season) that's what we need to do, but we are making it a little bit more difficult for ourselves."

Four games now remain for Argyle to try to squeeze into the play-offs. Argyle: 1 Conor Hazard, 2 Mathias Ross, 7 Jamie Paterson (17 Caleb Watts, 57), 8 Joe Edwards (capt, 3 Jack MacKenzie 80), 9 Lorent Tolaj, 15 Alex Mitchell, 18 Owen Oseni (10 Xavier Amaechi, 56), 19 Malachi Boateng, 28 Ronan Curtis, 35 Owen Dale, 45 Wes Harding. Substitutes: 21 Luca Ashby-Hammond (gk), 22 Brendan Galloway, 24 Caleb Roberts, 29 Matty Sorinola. Goals: Tolaj 79, Boateng 90 Booked: Edwards 15, Watts 61 Attendance: 17,016 (1,748 away)
After falling behind early in the game, Tashall Sandhu brought the Greens level, with Jared Rendle shifting the advantage in Argyle's favour just before the break. Rovers equalised, however, late in the second half, through a counter-attacking strike. Head Coach Jamie Lowry spoke positively about his side's performance on the road, but emphasised the need to continue building upon performances with fixtures limited as the season nears its end. "We played well and had some really pleasing parts within our performance," he said. "We passed the ball nicely and played through the thirds really well, but could've maybe created some more chances in front of goal and been more ruthless. That might've allowed us to get out of sight, when we were on top of the game. "We conceded two poor goals in transition, on the counter attack, where we might have been able to slow the game down in different ways or make a last-ditch block. "It could have been a little bit tidier there, but overall, I'm very pleased with the performance. We just need to find a way to have that edge to us to get over the line when we're in games and kill teams off." 10th
Argyle were unbeaten that month, gaining 13 points from five games. Cleverley commented: "This award is a recognition for the hard work from everyone. Tom said: "I know all managers or head coaches say it is a team effort, but it genuinely is and the togetherness and hard work we have managed to instil in the last few months contributes to awards like this one. "March was a good month for everyone at the club, with some real positive wins against teams around us. It has set us up nicely for an exciting end to the season and if I can get close to winning the April award, we will have hopefully got nearer to achieving our objectives for the season." Cleverley has been nominated twice before - in September and February - on both occasions being beaten by Lincoln manager, Michael Skubala. "[It's] a proud moment.," said Tom. "It's one I will remember being my first as a head coach. If you are beating Michael Skubala to anything at the minute you are doing well!"

A Tashall Sandhu goal, followed by an own goal, put Argyle into a deserved lead. Ise Aworinde got one back for Exeter, but James Sharpe immediately made it 3-1, on the verge of half-time. Substitute Kian Burch extended the gap in the second half, and Argyle saw the game out nicely to record a pleasing victory at their nearest rivals. Argyle: 1 Jack Flower (capt), 2 Toby Haley (12 Sam Hayman, half-time), 3 Malachi Davy (14 Lewis Flowers, 79), 4 Joel Tolcher, 5 Deniz Doru, 6 Toby Maclean, 7 Tashall Sandhu, 8 Harry Locke, 9 James Sharpe (15 Sam Lord, 66), 10 Seb Campbell (16 Kian Burch, 66), 11 Jared Rendle (18 Fletcher Poole, 79) 8th

18-year-old Finn has made 23 appearances for Argyle, after helping the Under-18s to the South West Youth Alliance and Merit League One titles in 2023/24. As a 16-year-old, he became Argyle's sixth youngest-ever player when he made his league debut as a substitute against Leeds United, at Elland Road, in November 2024. This season, Finn has stepped up another level. After signing his first professional contract in August 2025, he went on to score his first two senior goals in a Vertu Trophy tie against Spurs Under-21s the following month. Across all competitions, he has made 19 appearances this term, scoring three and assisting twice. Argyle have also been nominated for the Community Club of the Season award, going up against Blackburn Rovers and Bristol Rovers. Additionally, Argyle Community Trust's 'Argyle 4 Autism' project, co-designed by first-team players Joe Edwards and Julio Pleguezuelo, is up for the Community Project of the Season award. The ceremony, where these awards and the divisional Player of the Season, Team of the Season and other awards will be decided, takes place on Sunday, 19 April, live on Sky Sports. 7th
"It didn't look, either side of half-time, like it was going to be as comfortable as it ended up being," said Cleverley, speaking to Argyle TV in the aftermath of the win at Oakwell. "For large parts of the game, they had the ball, but we were in control. But either side of half-time, we didn't feel so in control. I'm really pleased with the character throughout that period, the impact of the substitutes. Tolly's goal kills the game off at a really important time when we were suffering a little bit. In the end, we managed the game really well with the experience we had out on the pitch. "We changed the system to 4-2-3-1 to try and manage the overload that they were creating in midfield. I think Barnsley can count themselves a little bit unfortunate to lose 3-0 today. "I think a 4-2-3-1 was there when we needed it, but you've got to give up some possession in an overloading midfield to get two strikers on the pitch. When your strikers [provide so many assists and goals] then I think that justifies going two up top. "The impact of the substitutes was outstanding. Young Caleb Roberts coming on in midfield, Caleb Watts bringing energy and quality, the same with Xav (Amaechi) and Brendan (Galloway). "We play to our strengths, which at the minute looks to be 4-4-2. Bim should be back for the weekend, but I couldn't be more happy with the other two. To have three guys in double figures is credit to the work they've put in, and the work the rest of the staff have put in. All three were not playing at this level last season and had very little experience at this level between the three of them. To have them in this place, we're really proud of them and happy for them."

The Pilgrims are now in seventh spot on 62 points two behind the final play-off place with five games remaining. Argyle cannot catch leaders, Watford, whose win today meant that they end the season as champions and are promoted. But Argyle are still in pole position to claim second place - and a chance at competing in the play-offs for the second promotion slot (having to play the second team in the northern section). Third place Bournemouth also won; they have three games still to go but Argyle have a superior goal difference and Bournemouth have to play Watford in their final fixture. Argyle's last match is away to Real Bedford on 26 April.

The Greens' number six was voted the winner after an impressive run of performances in midfield, including a goal against Lewes at Home Park. Proctor won the supporters' poll with 36% of the vote, ahead of Roisin Kivel (33%), Una Lue (18%), and Ellie Noble (13%).

With six games to go for the Pilgrims, they are three points outside of the play-off places, with a variety of teams in front of them who have played varying amounts of games. Making up around three points on three teams, and holding off a couple just beneath, is still a huge task but not an impossible one, and that is the mindset Cleverley wants to carry into Monday's trip to Barnsley. "It was always my mentality going into the last seven games, very unlikely you win every single one of them," Cleverley told Argyle TV. "At some point in the run-in, we were going to have to deal with dropping points. We realise the margin for error has now reduced, which increases a bit of pressure. "We know why it's not worked out for us today. We know what to get better at, but we certainly won't feel too disheartened. We've got a massive game in three days. The points tally to get in, I think, has stayed the same after the weekend's results. We've just made it a little bit more difficult for ourselves to get to that. "We have to clean this one out of our minds as soon as possible. We don't have time to really feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to be not far from perfect now, but in the previous six games we've been very close to perfect, so I think that form gets you in. We know what we have to execute to give ourselves the best chance to replicate that form."
"We are aware of multiple reports of racial abuse towards one of our players from an Argyle fan... The individual was identified and arrested... and the matter is now being dealt with by the police. "This is not the first incident of this nature towards a player or staff member this season and it is completely unacceptable. "We remain committed to ensuring Home Park is a place for everyone and will continue to stand against racism and discrimination of any form. "Something in football needs to change, and we will stand at the heart of it to ensure that this change happens."

Despite a red card for the visitors and a 0-0 half-time scoreline, the Trotters took the lead shortly after the break via a penalty given against Mathias Ross for handball. The Greens equalised through Ronan Curtis, and it seemed they had turned the momentum, but Bolton scored again, a goal credited to Sam Dalby, and, despite a number of potential chances, Argyle never found the way to get an equaliser, let alone a winner. The loss leaves Argyle still in ninth place on 59 points, with six games left, while Bolton increased their chances of a play-off slot, taking their tally to 69. Argyle: 1 Conor Hazard, 2 Mathias Ross, 3 Jack MacKenzie (45 Wes Harding, 59), 8 Joe Edwards (capt, 10 Xavier Amaechi, 80), 15 Alex Mitchell, 18 Owen Oseni (9 Lorent Tolaj, 58), 19 Malachi Boateng, 20 Herbie Kane, 27 Bim Pepple, 28 Ronan Curtis, 35 Owen Dale (17 Caleb Watts, 71). The visiting Gloucestershire side took an early lead, which doubled before the 20-minute mark, and found the back of the net further after Joel Tolcher seemed to bring Argyle back into the game. A youthful Greens side, playing in front of first-team staff and Head Coach Tom Cleverley, could not get going and paid for early mistakes just after kick-off. Head Coach, Jamie Lowry, said: "We conceded four poor goals today. Our general play was okay. We had a lot of the ball and controlled the majority of the game, but didn't show enough creativity to break them down and have a bit about us in the final third. "We lacked any imagination or that individual to provide a bit of quality, so that was disappointing. Performance-wise, it was okay, but we can't concede four really poor goals and expect to win a game of football. " It's all about learning. This is what they're here for, and this is why we do it. "The important thing is that they start taking things away and learning, but I think the frustrating thing at the moment is that we keep giving the same messages and the boys are not quite getting and valuing it." Argyle: 1 Jack Flower, 2 Joe Mwaro (capt) (15 Tashall Sandhu, 24), 3 Malachi Davy, 4 Joel Tolcher, 5 Dylan Williams, 6 Toby Maclean, 7 Jared Rendle (12 Lewis Flowers, 68), 8 Toby Rider, 9 Fletcher Poole, 10 Seb Campbell (14 Oscar Dean, 68), 11 Harry Shield (16 Harry Locke, half-time). Substitute: 23 Leo McCormick (gk). Goal: Tolcher 35. Yellow card: Dean 85. Red card: Dean 90+2. |
