Argyle Women fell to an away 5-0 defeat against Fulham Ladies in the Women's National League, all the goals coming in the first half. Argyle were stronger in the second period, but could not make it show.

Head Coach Matt Green said: ”The character and resilience that the group showed in the second half, after going in at the break five down, was fantastic. Their workrate out of possession throughout the 90 minutes was really good. We are looking to take positives from every game we play, and there were definitely positives from a resolute second-half performance.

“We were obviously disappointed to go in 5-0 down; we made a few mistakes. However, we are learning, developing every single week, every single day. And that will take time.”

Argyle knocked League One leaders, Bradford City, off the top spot with an assured and convincing 2-0 victory at Home Park. Goals came from in the first half from Julio Pleguezuelo from inside the box and Harvey White in the second with a 20+ yard screamer.

Tom Cleverley thought it was a 'complete performance' and his side's best game of the season so far.

Speaking to Plymouth Live, he said: "It was about as complete as you can get. Football is about what you do in two directions, not only what you do in an attacking perspective but from a defensive one as well.

To reduce a top, effective side like Bradford to four shots, no shots on target, I'm so so proud. It''s something we have got to take forward with us."

Player of the match - Tyreeq Bakinson

The Under-18s earned a hard-fought 1-0 away victory against Bristol City in their opening PDL Cup group-stage game.

Sam Hayman’s second-half goal proved the difference between Argyle and their higher-category opposition. Thomas Armytage, newly returned from his time with the England Under-16s squad, took the place of Leo McCormick in goal, the latter having been seconded to Plymouth Parkway.

Head Coach, Jamie Lowry was extremely proud of his side's excellent performance:

“The boys showed a great response after Tuesday; I thought it was a complete performance. Maybe we lacked a little bit in the final third, I thought we could have had a couple more.

“Our general build-up play was brilliant, the boys had great shape with our out-of-possession stuff, we were really difficult to break down.

“I’m really pleased with some great performances; it was a great way to respond to a disappointing result on Tuesday against a very strong Bristol City side."

Akos Buzsaky has posted a message to assure those concerned about him that he is okay.

"Unfortunately, in the last few months, there have been serious changes in my life that have tested me.

"There came a moment when I felt I had to break away from these daily routines."

He went on to say that his mother had contacted the police after a "misunderstanding".

Buzsaky added: "A soon as I learned about the situation, I stopped my retreat and informed the authorities.

"Thank you very much for all the concern and thoughts you have shown me.

"I wish everyone a nice day, and it felt really good to receive so much love!"

Academy goalkeeper, Leo McCormick, son of Luke, has joined Plymouth Parkway on a short-term work experience loan.

Senior Greens held their monthly meeting in Club Argyle. The speaker, who stepped in at short notice, was Matt Girdler, Head of Football Data who spoke interestingly and answered questions about the role and importance of data in recruitment and squad improvement.

An update on missing Akos Buzsaky. His formal colleague at Argyle, Hasney Aljofree, has posted that he is 'alright' and thanks everyone for their support.

Tom Cleverley saw 'plenty of positives' in Argyle's EFL Cup defeat by Coventry City.

“The main thing we were trying to get out of tonight is to lose that little bit of tension that we've shown with the ball in the first two league games,” said Tom. “Take the handbrake off a little bit, free ourselves up. I was really pleased with how the players did that.

"It’s never easy going 2-0 down, to such a high-class opposition, so early. We could have gone into our shell, and that tension could have grown and looked even worse. But the character, the ability, the mindset that we have to take into Saturday was there for all to see. We made it a competitive game of football. We gave as good as we got for 80 minutes against high-level opposition and I'm really proud of the players.

“I think the new guys brought a lot to that this evening. They showed no fear, grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and really added to a performance that there was a lot of positives in."

He added that he now had some selection headaches for the weekend's home League One fixture against Bradford City.

"Leading into Saturday, I have got headaches. A lot of players made my picking the team decisions tough, which is a healthy place to be.

"We have lost a game tonight, which we never want to do, but I think we are in a better place for it."

Tom Cleverley has confirmed that midfielder, Malachi Boateng, is likely to be out of action for six-eight weeks with a knee ligament injury. This 'could have been a lot worse' according to Argyle's Head Coach.

Former Argyle midfielder and fans' favourite, Ákos Buzsáky, has been reported missing in his native Hungary. Police are looking for the 44-year-old who hasn't been seen for more than a week

Hungarian International, Akos played in Green between the 2004-5 and 2007-8 seasons, when he was then loaned and later transferred to Queens Park Rangers. In 2013, he said that he would love to play for the Pilgrims again, but 'now was not the right time'.

Argyle Women came back strongly from a 0-1 half time deficit to beat Marine Academy, Plymouth 2-1 in the FAWNL Cup. Goals from Shana Dobel and Khloe Reed saw the Greens through to victory at Ivybridge Town's ground.

Head Coach, Matt Green, said: "I'm delighted for the girls because the amount of work they put in, I don't think people realise. They're a young team, to get their first win is massive for them as a group."

Argyle exited the EFL (Carabao) Cup in the second round in a lively encounter with newly promoted Premier League side, Coventry City, at Home Park.

Despite being two goals down within the first five minutes, the Greens fought back to 2-2 with impressive solo goals from new recruit, Oliver Irow, and Xavier Amaechi. However, they could not hold on, with the Sky Blues netting twice on 67 and 78 minutes - the second a penalty conceded by newly returned Joe Edwards. Argyle were themselves denied a penalty when Bim Pepple was brought down in the area, but the referee waved the claim away.

Both Irow (on loan from Spurs) and Tyreeq Bakinson - newly returned on loan from Leyton Orient - gave excellent accounts of themselves, but the night belonged to 17-year-old Academy product, Joe Mwaro. Playing in defence on both right and left, the teenager was awarded the player of the match accolade.

The Under-18s also fell to a Cup defeat, losing to Devon rivals, Exeter City in their opening Youth Alliance Cup group-stage game, against Exeter City.

The Grecians took an early lead through Joe Newport, before Argyle levelled from the penalty spot, Seb Campbell dispatching well on 79 minutes.

With just minutes left on the clock, Exeter won it, scoring a penalty of their own. Louie Cayless fired in to ensure victory for his side.

Head Coach, Jamie Lowry, was disappointed with both the result and the performance.

“After we started the season so well and did the basics so well, we didn’t today.

“It felt like they wanted to win the game more than we did. They had a little bit more fight about them, they ran little bit harder than us, they were more competitive which is really disappointing.

“We didn’t look after the ball well enough to have a sustained amount of pressure and create more chances. It gave them momentum and incentive when they’d go and press us.

“Overall, I’m really disappointed with the performance compared to where we have set our standards at the start of the season.”

In the wake of the departure of Brendan Wiredu, and the significant injury to Malachi Boateng, Argyle have brought in two loan players.

Midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson, has joined the Pilgrims for the second time. The 27-year-old has come from Leyton Orient, six years after his previous loan spell with the Greens which was curtailed by Covid.

Bakinson began his career with Luton Town, but moved to Bristol City aged 18, spending five years at Ashton Gate. During that time, he had loans with Newport County, Ipswich Town and, between those stints, Argyle.

"Tyreeq can do a bit of everything in the midfield," said Tom Cleverley. "He is tall, physical, reads the game well and is clean on the ball. I'm looking forward to working with him."

Director of Football Derek Adams added: "It's pleasing that we have been able to act quickly after Brendan Wiredu leaving the football club. Tyreeq has a lot of experience at this level, has been a League One promotion winner, and at 27 is a good age for a midfielder. I am looking forward to seeing him in green and white."

Tyreeq will wear the no. 19 shirt.

On the same evening, Argyle secured the services of Tottenham Hotspur young winger, Oliver Irow, for the season. The 20-year-old England youth international can play wide or upfront.

In January 2026, Irow joined Mansfield Town, for whom he played 18 games, scoring four times, including twice on his debut, in a 3-0 win in which Will Evans scored the other goal.

"I'm very please Oli is joining us," said Head Coach Tom Cleverley. "He is a young winger who likes to be direct. He can play off the left, or the right, and down the middle as well, so he is versatile and gives us options. I'm looking forward to working with him."

Director of Football Derek Adams added: "Oliver had a productive spell at Mansfield last season, and comes to us for a second loan, in which we think we can develop his game ever further. He has a willingness to learn, and his quality and versatility should make him a really good signing for us."

Oliver will wear the no. 14 shirt.

Argyle are expecting to reveal two new signings tomorrow, one of whom is thought to be former loanee, Tyreeq Bakinson, currently at Leyton Orient. According to Alan Nixon, the other could be winger, Oliver Irow, from Tottenham, who was on loan at Mansfield Town in the second half of last season.

Argyle Women crashed to a 0-6 home defeat against AFC Wimbledon Ladies at Home Park. They nearly scored from the kick off but were never able to gain momentum and were four goals down by half time.

I'm obviously disappointed with the result," said Head Coach Matt Green. "Wimbledon are a physical side, we knew that, with pace and power on the top line.

"I can't really fault the effort of our team, but it highlights where we are in our development in this league. This is a high level. Our hard work will continue, and we have a game on Wednesday against MAP, in the League Cup. It's an opportunity to look to bounce back, in another game, on another day."

Argyle picked up their first point of the 2026-27 League One season with a 1-1 away draw with Wycombe Wanderers. New no 9 signing, Will Evans, scored his first goal for the club. Argyle, the better side in the first half, led at the interval, but were unable to hold on to their advantage and tired towards the end. Wycombe equalised with a header following a fee kick conceded by Argyle captain, Wes Harding.

Argyle had to face former 'keeper, Conor Hazard, who now plays in goal for the Chairboys. He was given a mixed reception when he took his place in front of the Green Army at the start of the first period.

The game was marred by a significant ligament injury to midfield general, Malachi Boateng, who was playing his 48th consecutive start for the Greens.

Tom Cleverley felt that his side should have been awarded both a second goal, when Evans had the ball in the net but was declared offside, and a penalty should have been given in a goalmouth scramble in which Bradley Ibrahim received a high challenge.

Cleverley also hinted that two new signings were expected on Monday, after medicals had been held in the Wycombe area last night.

The Under-18s beat Portsmouth 4-2 at Millenium Fields to make it three unbeaten at the start of their Youth Alliance League campaign.

Frankie Maund stole the show, netting a spectacular first-half hat trick. Pompey fought back and closed the gap with Elisha Pfupa scoring twice in the second period. The Greens cliched it in second-half stoppage time, Emran Boudarga-Whischhoff netting his first of the season to ensure victory for the young Pilgrims.

Head Coach, Jamie Lowry, was pleased with the performance but disappointed that Portsmouth came back into the game.

He said: "The performance was really good. We grew into the game and competed really well.

"Portsmouth are a strong outfit and will be competitive this year. We duelled really well and did the basics that we keep talking about.

"We've got real quality, obviously three fantastic goals from Frankie, one of the best hat-tricks I've ever seen.

"In the second half I was disappointed to concede, both in transition and on the counter-attack. We turned the ball over too easily and then were not secure enough out of possession to stop the break.

"Credit to the lads, though, they defended well and put a real shift in to make sure Portsmouth didn't equalise.

"Overall, I'm really pleased with another good performance against a really strong side, keeping on building confidence for the boys."

Today would have been the 100th birthday of former Club Secretary, Graham Little, who served Argyle for 25 years between 1965 and 1991.

Tom Cleverly gave an update on injured players at his Friday press conference:

*Caleb Watts will be back in the squad for Saturday

*Jack MacKenzie is close and should be available to select against Bradford

*Oseni and Issaka are probably another week out

*Argyle will manage Mitch's loads in the next few weeks as he had a little knee tendon flare-up.

Midfielder, Brendan Wiredu, has left Argyle to join League Two Salford for an undisclosed fee (thought to be in the region of £300,000).

Tom Cleverley issued a 'keep calm, no panic' message, as Argyle aim to bounce back from their comprehensive 3-1 defeat by Stockport County at their Home Park opener, with an improved performance against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday..

Cleverley said: "You probably prefer to get straight back into another game after a defeat but there are clearly things we needed to work on as a group, which we have done.

"I have had some good quality time with the players on the training pitch which always helps, and hopefully we see that come out on Saturday."

Argyle Women's season tickets are going on sale. The price is �50 for adults, with under-14s and Evergreen members going free.

Each match ticket, if bought separately, will cost £5 - again free for under-14s who must be accompanied in the stadium by an adult.

The Under-18s scored a convincing 4-0 away win against Stevenage in the EFL Youth Alliance South Division. Goals came from Frankie Maund (2), Tegan Finn, and Seb Campbell from the penalty spot.

Argyle Under-18s fell to defeat in their Premier League Under-21 Cup opener against Leicester City.

Caleb Roberts netted the game's opener before Hugo De Lisle and Michael Golding both scored at the end of the first half to flip the game on its head.

Despite a valiant second-half effort, Sam Hayman's own goal put the game beyond doubt on 67 minutes.

Speaking after the game, Head Coach, Jamie Lowry, expressed his pleasure with his side's performance, despite the result.

He said: "I thought the lads were outstanding, I couldn't fault their attitude or application.

"It was great to take the lead and have something to build on but obviously they're a very good side, a lot older and a lot more experienced than us.

"The whole point of being in that competition... is to test ourselves against better and older players, so a lot of learning opportunities came from the game.

"Overall, I'm really proud of the boys, I thought every single one of them had a magnificent game."

The Women's team made it three weekend defeats for Argyle teams with a 4-2 loss away FAWNL Southern Premier westcountry rivals, Swindon Town at the Nigel Eady County Ground. Argyle were 2-1 up at half time with goals from Dolbel and Bishop, but the home side rallied strongly to end up 4-2 winners.

All three Argyle sides in action today had disappointing starts to their season.

On Saturday afternoon, the men's first team went down to a 1-3 loss at Home Park against last year's League One third place team and play-off runners-up, Stockport County. The Hatters were just too strong for the Greens in all areas of the field and raced into a 3-0 lead shortly into the second half. Substitute, Xavier Amaechi, pulled one back for Argyle on 78 minutes but they could not capitalise on a late push.

The first Fans' Forum of the season was held in Club Argyle, with Simon Hallett, Paul Berne and Derek Adams.

Simon Hallett confirmed that talks with potential investors were 'ongoing'.

Paul Berne revealed that Foulston Park is currently £6 million over budget. 'The total cost is set to be £27m, with Argyle's contribution to that increasing from £11.5m to £17-18m.'

Argyle Academy goalkeeper Thomas Armytage has been called up to the England Under-16 squad. He will join his teammates in London before flying to Florence where two fixtures against Italy are to be played in the week of 24 August.

Phil Stokes, Academy Manager, said: "We are incredibly proud of Thomas on his selection for England U16s. It is a fantastic achievement and deserved recognition of the hard work, commitment and progress he continues to show both on and off the pitch.

"Representing your country is a special honour for any young player, and this is another important step in Thomas' development. It is also a proud moment for his family and everyone across the Academy who has supported him on his journey so far."

Argyle's participation in the Under-21s Cup has been confirmed. The format consisting of a four-team group competition in which each side will play each other twice - home and away, followed by a 16-team knockout stage. Two teams from each group will advance to the knockout (round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final).

Argyle's group stage opponents are Leicester City, Cardiff City and AFC Bournemouth.

Former Argyle striker and fans' favourite, Ryan Hardie, has signed for Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan from his parent club, Wrexham. In doing so, he will unite with former Argyle boss, Steven Schumacher.

Former Argyle manager, Peter Reid, who contributed to keeping the Club afloat during Administration, is to do the Great North Run on 13 September. The 70-year-old will run in aid of Sir Bobby Robson's cancer charity.

Argyle triumphed 2-0 at the death in the EFL (Carabao) Cup round one Devon Derby fixture against Exeter City in front of a packed and noisy Home Park. The match marked the debut of recent signing, Will Evans, from Mansfield Town, but it was not such a happy start for Exeter debutant, Ethan Sutherland. Signed on loan in the afternoon from Wolverhampton Wanderers, he came on as a substitute in the second half and was sent off after 23 minutes, having been awarded two yellow cards.

A disjointed and uneven game was decided by two goals in second half added time. Former Exeter defender, Alex Hartridge (who had earlier been abused by Exeter fans) nodded home from a Harvey White corner on 91 minutes. Two or so minutes later, Freddie Issaka dispossessed the Exeter keeper and Bim Pepple slotted home from close range to seal the win.

Former Argyle Women's player, Roxy Thomas, who now plays for Torquay United, has been diagnosed with a brain tumour. The 18-year-old has already undergone two operations at the start of her treatment.

Tom Cleverley is still hoping to add an attacking wide player to his squad for the upcoming season, although Argyle are 'pretty close' to the limit of the new Salary Cost Management Protocol rules in League One for this season.

As it stands the only two fit, senior players that are available in this position are Xavier Amaechi and Ronan Curtis, with Caleb Watts out injured.

However, speaking to Plymouth Live, Cleverley indicated that 20-year-old Freddie Issaka could come under consideration as well after a strong pre-season showing.

Argyle youngsters scored an impressive double against Watford at Millennium Fields.

The U-18s thumped the Hornets 6-1, with a hat trick from Seb Campbell added to goals from James Sharpe, Tashall Sandhu and substitute Marley- Blu Francis - and that after Watford had taken the lead after nine minutes.

Six goals and four different scorers shows a statement of intent for the season to come.

Head Coach, Jamie Lowry, said: "I asked them at the start of the game to set the tone for the season and put down a bit of a marker.

"We worked on a way of playing and to be fair we executed what we worked on all pre-season in terms of being competitive and being able to play forward early.

"It was a real good mentality to come back from one-nil down and end up scoring six.

"I thought it was great that we had lots of different people contributing, it wasn't just the strikers scoring goals, it was all over the team.

Tom Cleverley gave an injury update at his Friday news conference:

-Caleb Watts should be back in a couple more weeks;

-Tegan Finn should train on Sunday but won't be ready for Monday's game against Exeter;

-Jack MacKenzie has been out on the pitch and he's making good progress to return in a few weeks

-Baidoo will have surgery tomorrow on his hamstring ahead of a 12-week rehab process

-There is a strong chance that Joe Edwards will be in the squad on Monday

Tom Cleverley said he was 'pleased' with his side's performance in their final friendly fixture - a 4-1 away win over Tavistock last night.

He said: "It was a bit of a split squad this evening, with a lot of young players getting exposed to starting a game for Argyle in front of fans.

"A lot of those boys played at Elburton last week, this is a level up from that. And then important for a group of senior players who for one reason or another haven't got more than 120-130 pre-season minutes under their belt.

"They got some solid minutes to make sure they are durable for the season coming. They were really professional and got out of it what they needed to, and some of the younger boys really caught they eye, so I'm pleased."

The next Fans' Forum, the first of the new season, will take place on Friday 14 August in The View at the Far Post Club, starting at 6.30pm. The panel is Simon Hallett, Paul Berne and Derek Adams. Argyle completed their pre-season friendly programme, undefeated, with a 4-1 away win at Tavistock. 'Pleggy' captained the side which mainly consisted of teenage players with only four recognised first-team starters. Goals came from Brendan Wiredu (2), first year apprentice, James Sharpe, and Caleb Roberts - the last two both stunning strikes - after Tavistock had gone ahead in the early minutes. Argyle equalised to make the score 1-1 at half time before putting the game to bed in the second period.

Argyle put in a very commendable performance, drawing 0-0 against Championship side, Bristol City in a friendly at Home Park in front of a 7,000 plus crowd. Tom Cleverley put out a 4-4-2 side against the Robins who included former Pilgrims Adam Randell and recent addition Lorent Tolaj. The Greens looked solid in all areas of the pitch, creating a number of scoring chances and can consider themselves unlucky not to have come away with a win. Their performance was marred only by an apparent hamstring injury to Michael Baidoo, with an update on his condition expected on Monday.
