Born in Goirle in the Netherlands, Lonwijk developed his footballing skills at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and earned international honours with his country's under-16 side. He was lured to England in January 2020 to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers, aged just 17, and settled as a central defender in Wolves' under-18 and under-23 sides.
In the summer of 2021 he returned to the Netherlands to play 22 times on loan at with Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top flight.
Having agreed a new three-year contract on his return to Molineux, Lonwijk signed a season-long loan deal at Home Park, two days before the start of the 2022-23 season, so becoming Argyle's fourth full-season loanee and sixth new face of the summer.
He had a successful season at Argyle, playing a role in both a Wembley appearance and promotion back to the Championship and picking up both a runners-up medal in the EFL Trophy and a League One winners' medal. Once the celebrations had completed, he returned to his parent club, Wolves, and was then loaned to Grasshopper Club Zürich in Switzerland, in the Swiss Super League,
