JOE RALLS

Born in Aldershot, Ralls started his career locally with Badshot Lea before being spotted by his home town club. The central midfielder played one game for the first team in an Aldershot Senior Cup tie against Bagshot, at the age of just 15, after a number of senior players were rested, before then joining Farnborough's under-16s.
Having agreed to play a trial match for Premier League Fulham, this was cancelled after he was spotted by Cardiff City and duly signed for them, despite interest from Everton and Notts County.
He made his full debut for Cardiff aged 17 years old in a League Cup win versus Oxford United in August 2011, before signing his first professional contract with the club at the end of September 2011, making his Football League debut 48 hours later. In 2012, he also won a single cap for England under-19s in the February of that year, playing against the Czech Republic.
Ralls was to go on to spend fourteen seasons with the Welsh side. Having played 20 times, scoring once across his first two seasons, Cardiff won promotion to the Premier League for 2013-14. For that season, Ralls was loaned out to Championship newcomers Yeovil Town. In total, he played 38 times, scoring three goals for the Glovers.
He then returned to Cardiff and, based on his success at Yeovil, was offered a three-year deal by new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. He was named Cardiff City Young Player of the Year for 2014-15 and over the next four seasons, he went on to become a Championship regular for the Bluebirds. When City returned to the Premier League in 2018-19, there was to be no loan spell away this time and he played 29 times across that campaign.
However, with Cardiff unable to maintain their place at the top table of English football, they again returned to the Championship, where Ralls featured as a regular for the next six seasons, his last being the 2024-25 season when the club were relegated to League One along with Argyle. In June 2025, it was announced he would be leaving the club once his contract expired.
In November 2025, he signed a short-term contract with Argyle, initially until January 2026, as a free agent. At the time, Argyle's transitional squad under new manager Tom Cleverley were struggling with both injuries and form and given the small size of the squad and its youthfulness, also lacked clear leaders on the pitch, as early-season form saw the club inside the bottom four relegation places of League One with much consternation amongst the Green Army.
