Born in London in 2002, Boateng, younger brother of former Argyle midfielder, Hiram Boateng, joined the Crystal Palace youth academy at the age of 11, signing his first professional contract in 2019. During his time at Selhurst Park, he won both the under-18 and the under-23 Player of the Season awards while making three appearances for the under-21 side during their 2021-22 EFL Trophy campaign, making his debut in a 3-0 defeat at Sutton United. He was part of the first team squad that toured Singapore and Australia before the start of the 2022-23 season, featuring twice for the club from the bench.
In August 2022, Boateng joined Queens Park on a season-long loan, his first appearance for his new side coming in a 3-2 win over Partick Thistle. He went on to make 41 appearances in all competitions for the Spiders scoring three goals and starring in a campaign that saw them narrowly miss out on winning the league. He was named in PFA Scotland’s Scottish Championship Team of the Year and won both the Committee and Supporters Player of the Season awards. A second loan spell, this time with Dundee, materialised and he enjoyed a fruitful second season north of the border, playing 36 times for the Dee. At the start of the 2023-24 season, he signed for Heart of Midlothian on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee, making his debut from the bench in an opening-day goalless draw with Rangers. He impressed once again at Tynecastle in a defensive midfield role earning positive reviews with his performances. Much to the dismay of Hearts fans, he caught the eye of Argyle’s recruitment team and in February 2025, just hours before the January transfer window closed, he travelled to Home Park to seal a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
