Born in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, Cissoko spent his formative footballing years at VVV-Venlo and Vitesse Arnhem before switching to NEC Nijmegen in 2016. After five years in the youth setup at the Goffertstadion, he signed his first professional contract in 2021 with a debut at FC Utrecht coming in the following April. A first goal for NEC arrived on his home debut as he bagged the winner in a 1-0 victory over Go A Eagles.
Cissoko signed an extended contract with his hometown club and during the following season he made 26 appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie, netting twice over the course of the campaign. After a relatively successful first full term, Toulouse approached NEC with a bid believed to be in the region of £2.5 million and he made the switch to the French side. A foot injury sustained during pre-season kept him on the sidelines until November 2023, after which he played in 16 matches across all competitons. His solitary goal for his new club came in a 2-1 win at Lorient in April 2024, a month or so after he had been handed his debut for the Dutch under-21 side against Norway.
In July 2024, Cissoko arrived at Home Park on a season-long loan deal as the Pilgrims saw off interest from a number of competitors, including an unnamed Premier League side, to secure the services of the youngster for their upcoming Championship campaign. He made his Argyle debut in the opening day fixture at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday.
