ARCHIE WALKER
Note: W.S. Tonkin's 'All About Argyle' lists him as J. Walker. This is incorrect; he was Archibald, as reported in the Western Morning News on 28 Sep 1910 (when he signed for Argyle), and listed in the 1911 Census as living with teammates George Malcolm and William Dixon.
Full Name: Archibald Walker
Born: 30 May 1879
Came from: Galston Went to: East Fife
First game: 01 October 1910 Last game: 29 April 1911
Appearances: 10 (10/0) Goals: 1
Walker was a Scottish-born centre-forward who played for Galston in the Scottish Combination League, scoring 30 goals for the team during the 1908-09 season, before joining Morton. He netted 19 times and was virtually ever present for The Ton in the 1909-10 Scottish First Division campaign, before returning to Galston, from whom he joined Argyle in September 1910. A contemporary newspaper report said that he was "reputed to be a fast and dashing centre, and a good shot." A cousin of Swindon Town great, Jock Walker, he spent just one season at Home Park before returning north of the border to play for East Fife.
