MARTIN PILOT
Full Name: Martin Llewellyn Pilot
Came from: Ebbw Vale Went to: Ebbw Vale
First game: 27 April 1904 Last game: 27 April 1904
Appearances: 1 (1/0) Goals: 0
Born in 1881 in Newtown near Ebbw Vale, Pilot made a single appearance during Argyle's first season as a professional club, whilst on trial from South Wales League side Ebbw Vale FC.
A full-back, his only game for Argyle was a home Western League match against West Ham United. Local media at the time reported that his first action was a miskick which nearly led to a goal for the the Hammers, but he soon settled and regularly thwarted the West Ham attack. A match report said “when the Hammers attack got going, Pilot was there to pull them back” and "he created a favourable impression”. The Western Evening said “he well knows the game and how to play it, using his head as well as his feet. He kicked with judgement, feeding his forwards with accuracy. Pilot should prove an acquisition to the Plymouth Combination".
Quite what then happened is unclear, but a transfer never materialised.
