Born in Bentworth, near Alton in Hampshire, Osman started his career as a youth with Okeford United before joining Western League Poole Town. Whilst playing in Dorset he caught the eye of several clubs but it was Argyle that took the plunge and the outside-left made his debut near the end of the 1935-36 season. Making just five first team appearances, he then returned closer to home and joined Southampton in 1937.
Being back in his native Hampshire certainly helped; he played 71 times and scored 31 goals, including 22 in one season to finish top-scorer. Moving to Millwall in March 1939 his career was interrupted by the Second World War, but he did return to The Dell as a guest player before eventually joining the Tank Corps, where he was wounded whilst serving in Italy.
When recovered, and on cessation of hostilities, he returned to Millwall and in total made 36 appearances for The Lions. In October 1947 he transferred to his last League club, Bristol City, for whom he played 18 times. He then moved out of the League to play for several ambitious non-league clubs including Dartford, Canterbury City and Winchester City. He was appointed player-manager of Canterbury City for the 1951-52 season before returning to Hampshire again to manage Winchester City for four years between 1953-57. On retiring from football he emigrated to the USA, where he remained for the rest of his life.
