A classy fullback whose true worth was never truly appreciated at Home Park. The Barnstaple boy came up through the youth ranks to make his Argyle debut under David Kemp in August 1991. But despite obvious promise, he found his path to the first team blocked by first Gary Poole and then Mark Patterson, and was restricted to sporadic appearances over the next four seasons. Relegation to the basement division alerted several clubs to Edworthy's availability, and Crystal Palace stepped in with a £350,000 bid that would see the 22-year-old playing second-tier football once again.
Edworthy helped Palace win promotion to the Premier League in 1997, and he was a regular in the top-flight as Palace finished bottom and were relegated. Coventry City shelled out £1.2million to take the Devon boy back into the Premier League, and he made 78 appearances for The Sky Blues before joining Wolves, and later playing for Norwich, Derby and Leicester. Edworthy won promotion to the Premier League a startling four times in ten years, but also suffered the ignominy of relegation from the same division on as many occasions.

From Andy Widger in Devon on 22/02/2015 ...
Played along side Eddy in the youth team between 1990-92 and am not at all surprised at the successful career he went on to make for himself. The lad from North Devon went by the nickname of "Steady Eddy", given to him by Nissy and Dissy, which was so appropriate as he never seem to have a bad game, not flash at all and so level headed.
Always looked out for his name when I was released as an apprentice along with Mickey "Trigger" Evans to see their careers develop. Well done, was a pleasure playing along side Eddy in those early days!
