PERCY CHERRETT
Full Name: Percy Albert M. Cherrett
Born: 12 September 1899
Came from: Portsmouth Went to: Crystal Palace
First game: 01 September 1923 Last game: 20 April 1925
Appearances: 62 (62/0) Goals: 36
Born in Christchurch, Dorset, Cherrett was a centre-forward and occasional inside-right who started his career with local non-league side Boscombe before moving to Portsmouth, where he hit 36 goals in a two-year spell. He made his debut for Argyle by continuing his Fratton Park scoring habit, hitting Argyle's only goal in a defeat at Portsmouth, and went on to maintain his one-in-two scoring prowess with a near-identical record whilst with the Pilgrims, also hitting 36 but in six fewer games than it had taken him with Pompey. He left Argyle when Jack Cock arrived in 1925, joining Crystal Palace, where he hit a half-century of goals, before spells with Bristol City and finishing off closer to home with Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, and then non-league Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
