Born in Jamaica, Garrick settled with his family in Liversedge in West Yorkshire, attending Whitcliffe Mount School in Cleckheaton before studying sport and exercise science at Huddersfield New College. He played football as a teenager and then took up rugby league with local amateur side Dunley Hill at the age of 16. A chance soon came to train with Bradford Bulls RLFC, and he came close to giving up football when the Bulls expressed an interest in signing him. However, his mother and the manager of his amateur side persuaded him to concentrate on the round ball game.
He continued to play football for his sixth form college and then with Ossett Albion, where his strength and speed caught the eye of visiting scouts. After a two-week trial at Swansea City, he moved to South Wales on an initial two-year contract in the summer of 2016, and progressed with the academy and under-21 development sides.
Garrick made his first team debut as a 72nd minute substitute in an EFL Cup tie against Northampton in August 2019, and his League debut as a 62nd minute substitute at Queens Park Rangers came a week later. In February 2021 he joined Swindon Town on a three-month loan deal, where he played 19 times and scored twice. However, he was unable to help the Robins avoid relegation to the fourth tier, in a season with no crowds because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Garrick's return to Swansea was followed by another spell back in England, this time joining Ryan Lowe's Pilgrims on a season-long loan in August 2021, to become the club's ninth new face that summer.
