DOM TELFORD
Full Name: Dominic David Telford
Born: 05 December 1996
Came from: Bury Went to: Newport County
First game: 10 August 2019 Last game: 23 January 2021
Appearances: 47 (15/32) Goals: 5
Telford was one of five from the previous season’s promotion-winning Bury side to follow manager Ryan Lowe to Home Park in the summer of 2019, during the Greater Manchester club's financial crisis.
The Burnley-born striker began his career at Blackpool and, while only 17, graduated to the first-team for the start of the 2014-15 Championship season, in which he made 14 appearances and scored in only his second game.
Still a teenager, he was snapped up by Premier League Stoke City in July 2015, where he spent the next three seasons without making a first team appearance. His third season on Stoke's books was spent on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One, playing 24 times (20 as a substitute) and scoring five before his move to Gigg Lane in July 2018. In Bury's 2018-19 promotion-winning season, Telford scored 14 times in 48 appearances, half of his goals coming in the Shakers' EFL Trophy run that saw them reach the semi-final stage.
Telford stayed at Home Park for two seasons and was a part of Ryan Lowe's side that won promotion via points-per-game in the COVID-curtailed season of 2019-20, contributing three goals but being used more from the bench than as a starter. The following season saw a similar pattern as he made just two league starts but appeared frequntly from the bench.
No doubt eager for more starts, midway through the 2020-21 season he was allowed to move to Newport County in League Two on a permanent 18-month contract. After an impressive month which saw him score eight goals in just six matches, Telford was awarded the EFL League Two Player of the Month Award for October 2021, and a further four goals in four matches saw him receive the award for a second successive month. Finishing the season with 25 goals, he also became the first Newport player to exceed 20 since John Aldridge in the 1983-84 season. In April 2022 Telford and his Newport County teammate and future Pilgrim loanee Finn Azaz were named in the EFL League Two team of the season. Telford finished the 2021-22 season as the top scorer in League Two but declined County's overtures to keep him. He had played 55 times across two seasons, scoring 27 goals.
In June 2022 he joined League Two club Crawley Town on a three-year deal. Starting well with the Red Devils, he scored 16 goals in 51 games in the 2022-23 season, but after only 4 appearances the following season, he moved further north to Barrow, who signed him on a two-year deal.
