Broome was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire in 1881 and began his career with Kidderminster Harriers. A versatile performer who could play at either inside-forward position, he joined Bury in 1907 before moving to Home Park two years later. Despite the Argyle handbook describing his great promise, Broome struggled to break into the first team and returned to Kidderminster in May 1910 to end his career with his first club.
