PETER RATTRAY
Full Name: Peter Kerr Rattray
Born: 07 November 1925
Came from: Dundee Went to: Norwich City
First game: 02 September 1950 Last game: 30 April 1952
Appearances: 55 (55/0) Goals: 22
Born in Bannockburn in Stirlingshire, Scotland, he began his career with Scottish junior side Rutherglen Glencairn in Glasgow.
He was signed by Dundee and spent five seasons at Dens Park from 1945 to 1950. He made 40 appearances and scored 20 goals, helping the club regain its top-flight status as B Division champions.
He moved to Argyle in a swap deal for £3,000 and the transfer of Stan Williams in 1950, under fellow Scot Jimmy Rae. Despite taking a little while to settle in, he became an indispensable member of the team. A tall inside-forward, he had surprisingly good ability for his size and was a major part of the promotion-winning team of 1951-52, scoring 19 league goals. In just two seasons with Argyle, he nearly matched a one-in-two strike rate, finishing with 22 goals in 55 appearances.
Despite his success, he requested a transfer at the end of the season and moved to Norwich City for £9,000 in the summer of 1952.
A little over a year later, after a less successful spell in East Anglia - in which he scored five goals in 24 games - he returned to Scotland with Stirling Albion in 1953, near his home town of Bannockburn. He played 20 games for the club and scored three goals. He then moved to his last club, St Johnstone, for whom he played nine games and scored four goals between 1955 and 1957 before retiring from the game.
He remained living and working locally in his native Stirlingshire, before passing away in late 2004 at the age of 79. His death was registered in the Clackmannanshire registration district, just east of Stirling.
