Born in Truro, O'Hagan was a product of Argyle's youth set-up and spent just over three years with the club, across two spells, making only occasional first-team appearances as a striker.
He was given his debut by Peter Shilton and played during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, making 11 appearances and scoring once, in a 4-2 Football League win away at Stockport County in October 1994, in just his third appearance for the club after coming off the bench.
After Shilton had been dismissed, he played under Neil Warnock, with all his appearances in the 1995-96 season coming as a substitute. He was released by the club at the end of the season, joining Weston-super-Mare while also playing Sunday League football for The Albermarle, a pub-based team from Whitleigh in Plymouth.
Remarkably, he then went from Sunday League football to becoming a surprise addition to Argyle's squad as the 1997-98 season moved into November. New manager Mick Jones, Warnock's former assistant, was short of forward options, so he snapped up the powerful centre-forward on non-contract terms. Argyle had been hampered by Carlo Corazzin being away on international duty with Canada, leaving them short in attack for the Division Two game against AFC Bournemouth in November 1997.
There was widespread surprise when it was confirmed that not only had O'Hagan re-signed, but that he was in the starting line-up too. He led the line alongside Adrian Littlejohn, who scored two of the goals as Argyle recorded a third successive win by beating Bournemouth 3-0. Earl Jean had grabbed an early opening goal, enabling Argyle to move up to 18th in the table.
In his second spell, he played a further 10 times for the club, adding one more goal, away to Northampton Town in the Football League Trophy in December 1997, which Argyle lost on penalties.
He left the club once the striker impasse had been resolved, with his last match coming in January 1998, after which he signed for Dorchester Town. In total, he had played 21 times for the club and scored twice.
After his time with Dorchester, he had later spells with Tiverton Town, Bodmin Town and Falmouth Town and as of 2026 was still playing football for Padstow United into his late 40s.
