IBRAHIM CISSOKO
Born: 26 March 2003
Came from: Toulouse Went to: Toulouse
First game: 11 August 2024 Last game: 18 January 2025
Appearances: 15 (9/6) Goals: 3
Born in Nijmegen, in the Netherlands, Cissoko spent his formative years in the youth systems of VVV-Venlo and Vitesse Arnhem before joining hometown club NEC Nijmegen in 2016. After five years at the Goffertstadion, he signed his first professional contract in 2021 and made his senior debut away to FC Utrecht the following April. His first goal for NEC came on his home debut, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles.
Having signed a contract extension with NEC, Cissoko established himself in the first team during the following season, making 26 Eredivisie appearances and scoring twice. His progress attracted the attention of French side Toulouse, who paid a reported £2.5 million for his services. However, a foot injury suffered during pre-season delayed his debut until November 2023. He went on to make 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring once in a 2-1 victory away to Lorient in April 2024. A month earlier, he had made his debut for the Netherlands under-21 side against Norway.
In July 2024, Cissoko joined Argyle on a season-long loan as the Pilgrims reportedly beat off competition from several clubs, including an unnamed Premier League side, to secure his signature. He made his debut on the opening day of the Championship season away to Sheffield Wednesday.
After an encouraging start, he made 15 appearances for Argyle, scoring three goals, two of which came in a 3-1 victory over Luton Town in September 2024. Three matches later, he was sent off during the 5-0 defeat at Cardiff City. It subsequently emerged that he had suffered a hip injury requiring surgery, ruling him out until January 2025. Following his return, first-team opportunities became increasingly limited, particularly after Miron Muslic replaced Wayne Rooney as head coach.
As the January 2025 transfer window drew to a close, Cissoko returned to parent club Toulouse before immediately joining Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the remainder of the season. He made five appearances for the Owls before another loan move followed at the start of the 2025-26 campaign, joining League One side Bolton Wanderers.
Cissoko featured 27 times and scored three goals for the Trotters before being released by Toulouse at the end of the season. In total, he made 11 appearances and scored once during his two-year spell with the French club, much of which was spent out on loan.
Rather than remain in England, he opted to return to his native Netherlands, signing a four-year contract with Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle.
