Born in Roehampton in May 2000, Steven and his twin brother Ryan joined Fulham, just three miles from home, at the age of eight. Both progressed through the club's academy and represented England at every level from under-16 to under-21, with Steven winning the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in India in October 2017.
Sessegnon suffered a serious knee injury while playing for England's under-16 side against Brazil in Florida in December 2015, but battled back to return to Fulham's under-18 team early the following season. He signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2017 and made his senior debut in an EFL Cup tie that August.
He established himself in Fulham's first team during the pandemic-affected 2019-20 season, impressing with his performances at right-back. Following the Cottagers' promotion to the Premier League, he returned to the Championship on a season-long loan with Bristol City, making 18 appearances during the 2020-21 campaign.
Sessegnon became Steven Schumacher's third signing when he joined Argyle on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season, with the deal completed just an hour before the January transfer window closed. Initially used from the substitutes' bench, he became a more regular starter during the run-in and made 10 appearances as Argyle narrowly missed out on the League One play-offs in a season that began under Ryan Lowe and ended with Schumacher in charge.
After returning to Fulham, he spent the 2022-23 season on loan with League One rivals Charlton Athletic, making 38 appearances and scoring once before being released by Fulham, having made 21 senior appearances for the club.
In August 2023, Sessegnon signed a two-year contract with League One side Wigan Athletic.
After making 59 appearances and scoring once across three seasons for the Latics, he returned to London in the summer of 2026, signing a two-year deal with AFC Wimbledon, with the option of a further year.
