Born in Newham in October 1989, Agard’s footballing journey began at the Arsenal academy. He moved to Everton during the 2005-06 season, turning down advances from Tottenham Hotspur.
He scored heavily for the Toffees at under-18 level, progressing to the reserve side during 2007-08 and winning the Keith Tamlin award for contribution to the Everton academy both on and off the field. He continued with a prolific scoring record in the reserves and was given his first taste of first team football when playing in a number of pre-season friendlies, including games during a tour of Switzerland.
Agard made the Everton bench for the first two games of the 2008-09 season without featuring, before returning to the reserves, for whom he won the Reserve Player of the Season award. At the end of the 2008-09 campaign, he was rewarded with a two-year professional contract.
In September 2009, he finally made his Everton debut, coming off the bench in a Carling Cup tie at Hull City before making his Premier League bow in the dying minutes against Chelsea. His first start for the Toffees came in the Europa League game at home to BATE Borisov, which Everton lost 1-0. Further opportunities at Everton were not forthcoming, but he did spend time on loan at Peterborough and Kilmarnock in the second half of the 2010-11 season, and was then released by Everton that summer.
Agard's next move was to Yeovil Town on a one-year deal in June 2011. He scored six times in 34 appearances for the Glovers but was released at the end of the season. From there he joined Rotherham United, where he spent two seasons and chalked up 32 goals in 91 games. His first goal for the Millers came against Argyle in October 2012 and he contributed greatly to Rotherham’s successful automatic promotion to League One at the end of the 2012-13 campaign. Agard’s most successful season followed as Rotherham earned a second successive promotion, beating Leyton Orient on penalties in the play-off final at Wembley, where he successfully converted his spot kick in the shootout. He ended the season with 26 goals, finishing as third highest scorer in League One, and was also given the League One Player of the Month award in April 2014. With his contract up at the end of the season, Rotherham looked to retain his services, but the striker declined their offer and, following an aborted move to Leeds United after failing to agree personal terms, he signed for Bristol City just after the start of the 2014-15 season.
During his time with Bristol City, Agard scored 17 goals in 73 appearances, helping the Robins to the 2015 League One title and the Football League Trophy. In August 2016 he was signed by League One side Milton Keynes Dons for an undisclosed club-record fee and scored twice on his debut. During a five-year stay at MK Dons, Agard scored 50 goals in 166 appearances, tasting both success and failure during his stay, with his side suffering relegation to League Two in 2017-18 before bouncing back immediately at the first attempt the following season. In that promotion season, Agard finished as top scorer in the division with 22 goals in all competitions. Injuries and a lack of first team opportunities saw him suffer a frustrating start to the 2020-21 season and he was released at the end of the campaign.
In September 2021, Ryan Lowe offered Agard the opportunity to join Argyle on a short-term contract, no doubt attracted by the 31-year-old's career record of 107 goals in 388 matches. However, in January 2022, without the offer of a contract extension at Home Park, he joined Doncaster Rovers on an 18-month deal. After 36 appearances (three goals), he left Doncaster at the end of the 2022-23 season when his contract expired.
