Roberts' potential was spotted in a park game at the age of six, and over the next ten years, he played in green at all age levels, including regular appearances for the under-18 side at the age of 15.
At 16 years and 9 days, the Ivybridge Community College student became Argyle's second-youngest-ever first-team player when he made his debut for the Pilgrims as a 59th-minute substitute in the EFL Trophy match against Arsenal under-21s in November 2021. Eleven months later, the midfielder made his first start in an EFL Trophy fixture against Crystal Palace under-21s in October 2022. Less than a week later, he signed his first professional deal at Home Park, on his 17th birthday.
