Sheridan began his career in football with his hometown side, Bailieboro Celtic, before joining Belvedere in Dublin. As a schoolboy he was also an accomplished Gaelic footballer.
He moved to Scotland to join Celtic in 2006, while studying for a degree in Applied Physiology at Strathclyde University. In 2009 he spent four months on loan at Motherwell, playing 15 times and scoring twice, before the 19-year-old moved south for a six-month loan at Home Park.
Sheridan, a Republic of Ireland under-21 international, failed to score in 14 appearances for Argyle, and on his return to Scotland began a loan spell at St Johnstone, where he played 18 times and scored six goals. This move was far more successful and as a result, he was called up to the senior Republic of Ireland team, making his debut against Paraguay in May 2010.
In August 2010 Sheridan left Celtic, having played 19 times and scored four goals for them, to sign a three-year contract with Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia. In 2011 he had trials with American sides Seattle Sounders and then Portland Timbers before a trial back in Scotland with SPL club Hibernian. He then had a second loan spell with St Johnstone, chalking up another four goals in 32 games.
After he was released by CSKA Sofia due to the club's financial problems, Sheridan signed for Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock in September 2012, for whom he scored ten goals in 29 games. In June 2013 he then signed for APOEL in Cyprus, playing 75 times and scoring 16 goals across two seasons.
In June 2015, Sheridan signed a contract with rival Cypriot First Division club Omonia. His first season there was the most prolific of his career (18 goals in 42 games). Then in February 2017 he signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Polish top-flight side Jagiellonia Białystok.
