A product of the Argyle youth set up, Wills was first spotted playing for Stoke Gabriel. He spent nearly five years at Home Park, mainly on the fringes of the first team but did make a significant contribution to Paul Sturrock's team that won Division Three in 2001-02. He scored his first league goal against Torquay United in April 2001, a club he joined on loan during the 2002–03 season and then permanently in January 2003.
After his release by Argyle, he went on to make 40 appearances in 18 months for the Gulls before moving into non-league football with Tiverton Town and Truro City. It was at Truro that he had the most successful spell of his career. He joined the club in December 2005, but it was the 2006-07 season that was to see Wills etch himself into City folklore. He racked up an impressive 52 appearances and by the end of the league season had weighed in with 12 goals that helped secure him the Players' Player of the Year award. His defining moment came in the first FA Vase final at the new Wembley in May 2007, when he became the first player to net at both ends of the new incarnation of the famous stadium, against Hampshire-based side AFC Totton, to take his tally to 14 and help Truro become Vase champions in front of a record 36,232 crowd.
After that remarkable spell at Truro, he eventually had his contract cancelled by mutual consent in the summer of 2008 to focus on work commitments in Torbay, and he went on to play part-time for Dawlish Town and his original club, Stoke Gabriel.
