Sillett began his career with his hometown club, Southampton, following in the footsteps of his father Charlie and brother Peter. He left without making a first team appearance, rejoining his brother at Chelsea in 1954. He had to complete his National Service during his first two years at Stamford Bridge, which contributed to a delay in making his Chelsea debut, but his chance finally came on New Years Day 1957 when he appeared in a 3-0 defeat against the powerful pre-Munich Manchester United side at Old Trafford. After eight years, and over 100 appearances for Chelsea, Sillett joined Coventry City in 1962. He helped the club win the Third Division in 1964 but a back injury limited his first team chances and he moved on to Home Park in 1966. Primarily a full-back, he also played up front during his two seasons with Argyle. After retiring he moved into coaching with Bristol City and then became manager of Hereford United. He famously led Coventry City to an FA Cup final victory in 1987 before a second stint with Hereford.
