VINCENT PERICARD
Full Name: Vincent de Paul Pericard
Born: 03 October 1982
Came from: Portsmouth Went to: Portsmouth
First game: 11 February 2006 Last game: 30 April 2006
Appearances: 15 (14/1) Goals: 4
Cameroon-born Pericard began his career with St Etienne and, despite just a couple of first team appearances, showed enough potential to earn a move to Juventus. The France under-21 striker made only a single appearance for the Old Lady of Turin’s first team, playing alongside Edgar Davids in a Champions League match against an Arsenal side containing Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires.
A highly successful 2002-03 season on loan to Portsmouth followed, which was converted to a permanent transfer in July 2003, but his initial form could not be maintained, mainly due to a variety of injuries. After recovering from cruciate ligament damage he joined Sheffield United on loan in September 2005 and then in the following February he began a three-month loan spell at Home Park. His time with Argyle began with a bang with a hat-trick on his first home start. Pericard's triple remained the last league hat-trick by an Argyle player for nine years until Reuben Reid usurped him in the Devon Derby in February 2015 (his second for the club, following a treble against Lincoln City in the FA Cup in November 2014).
He failed to hit those heights during the remainder of his stay and after his release from Fratton Park at the end of the 2005-06 season, Pericard joined Stoke City, managed by Tony Pulis, who had brought him to Argyle. He soon fell out of favour despite a promising start at Stoke and also had some legal problems which led to him spending some time in prison.
Pericard rarely played over the next three seasons, spending brief spells on loan at Southampton and Millwall. After being released by Stoke in the summer of 2009 he joined Carlisle United on a short-term contract but when offered an extension to this deal chose to move to Swindon Town, before signing for Conference South side Havant & Waterlooville. In February 2012, at the age of just 29, he announced his retirement from the game and set up a company to help foreign players adapt to life in English football.
In January 2015 he came out of retirement to play for Wessex League club Moneyfields. However, in February 2015 he again described himself as a retired footballer.
