Hodges was a midfielder who had a brief loan spell with Argyle from West Ham United. After starting his career with the Hammers, for whom he made just six substitute appearances, he had loan spells with Exeter City and Leyton Orient before his move to Home Park. He was then loaned out to Ipswich Town and Southend United before a permanent transfer to Scunthorpe United in July 1999. He enjoyed the most successful period of his career at Glanford Park, scoring 24 goals in 130 appearances for the club. Following his release, Hodges had a brief spell with Rochdale before two unproductive years at Bristol Rovers. He then moved into non-league football and went on to play for Thurrock, Billericay Town, Hornchurch and Tilbury.
