KELLE ROOS
Full Name: Kelle Willem Roos
Born: 31 May 1992
Came from: Derby County Went to: Derby County
First game: 09 December 2017 Last game: 26 December 2017
Appearances: 4 (4/0) Goals: 0
Roos was signed as an emergency loan during the troubled 2017-18 season when a freak spate of injuries to Argyle's goalkeepers meant that he became the club's eighth to feature in a match squad before Christmas.
Concurrent injuries to Luke McCormick, Robbert te Loeke, Kyle Letheran and apprentice Mike Cooper had already triggered the emergency loans of Remi Matthews (who also picked up an injury) and Will Mannion, and also forced 16-year-old Max Childs to provide cover on the bench. McCormick's return in early December looked to have ended the terrible run of luck, but five days later an injury in training abruptly ended that hope.
Born in Rijkevoort in the Netherlands, Roos played for many Dutch clubs in his youth, including PSV Eindhoven, where he gained international honours at under-15 level. After unsuccessful trials at Birmingham City and Bristol City, he returned to the Netherlands to join amateur side Nuenen before crossing the North Sea once more to sign for Nuneaton Town in November 2013. His form at Nuneaton - eight clean sheets in 13 games including a fine save from a close-range shot from former-Pilgrim Jason Jarrett - led to interest from League clubs and in January 2014 he signed for Derby County in the Championship.
As well as five starts at Derby, Roos amassed a total of 58 appearances in loan spells at Rotherham, AFC Wimbledon (where he played against Argyle in the 2016 League Two play-off final at Wembley), Bristol Rovers and Port Vale. Then came the 25-year-old's surprise arrival in Plymouth to step in for McCormick, having only just made a comeback from injury himself.
His emergency stint for the Pilgrims yielded four appearances before he returned to Pride Park. Having previously made just five appearances across five seasons with the Rams, Roos' loans spells at Argyle and elsewhere must have helped his development; he went on to play 89 times for Derby, establishing himself more regularly during his last four Championship campaigns with the club.
Released in May 2022 after nine seasons at Pride Park, Roos signed for SPL club Aberdeen in June 2022 on a two-year deal.
