KARLEIGH OSBORNE
Full Name: Karleigh Anthony Jonathan Osborne
Born: 19 March 1988
Came from: Bristol City Went to: Kilmarnock
First game: 08 November 2016 Last game: 26 November 2016
Appearances: 2 (0/2) Goals: 0
Born in Southall, London, Osborne began his football with South Ruislip Rangers. In September 2004 he joined Brentford as a 16-year-old trainee and made his Football League debut in the last game of that season. It was the start of a seven-season stay with the west London club, in which he accumulated 185 appearances in central defence as well as loan spells at Hayes (2006), Oxford United and Eastbourne Borough (both 2008).
Osborne moved across London to seal a two-year deal with Millwall in the summer of 2012. In his second season at The Den he was loaned out to Bristol City and impressed enough to earn a permanent transfer in the January 2014 transfer window.
After 32 games for the Robins he was loaned to Colchester near the end of the 2014-15 season and then returned to London for a season-long loan with AFC Wimbledon. Injury ended his time with the Dons in February 2016 and he was released by Bristol City at end of the campaign.
In June 2016 Derek Adams brought Osborne to Home Park, the manager's fifth new face in nine days. Of the 16 signings that summer, the 28-year-old centre-back was one of the most promising acquisitions, but an early training injury left him on the sidelines for all of the pre-season games and the first two months of the campaign. With Bradley, Bulvitis and Songo'o ahead of him, Osborne struggled to make an impact and managed just two substitute appearances before a somewhat surprising transfer to Kilmarnock in January 2017.
He made only two appearances for Kilmarnock in the remainder of the 2016-17 season before a move to Grimsby Town on a one-year contract in July 2017, where he played 13 times before signing a one-year deal with National League club Aldershot Town in August 2018. He was named as captain of the Shots, but injuries restricted his opportunities and six months later, after nine appearances, he left the club by mutual consent.
In March 2019 he joined Braintree Town for the remainder of the season, but was unable to help the club avoid relegation to the National League South. Three months later, on social media, Osborne announced his retirement from the game at the age of 31.
Holding a UEFA 'B' licence, Osborne began his coaching career during the 2015–16 season with Brentford Women. He was appointed to the role of head coach on a permanent basis in July 2018, whilst still playing. Prior to the beginning of the 2020–21 season, he was also appointed first-team coach and defensive strategist at Southern League Premier Division South club Walton Casuals, but the club was sadly dissolved in June 2022. However, he continued to be in charge at Brentford Women.
