CONNOR SMITH
Full Name: Connor Michael Smith
Born: 18 February 1993
Came from: AFC Wimbledon Went to: Released
First game: 09 August 2016 Last game: 06 May 2017
Appearances: 31 (16/15) Goals: 2
Smith was born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, but grew up in Mullingar, County Westmeath in Ireland, and played four times for the Republic of Ireland's under-21 side, having also represented them at under-17 and under-19 levels. He joined Watford's academy in May 2010 and worked his way to his first professional deal two years later, having had an extended loan spell with Isthmian League side Wealdstone United.
He made his Football League debut in the Championship in August 2012 and his first start came that October. In all, Smith made just 13 senior appearances for Watford in over three professional years, which also included loan spells with Gillingham and Stevenage. He left Watford by mutual agreement in January 2016, but was a free agent for just a day, signing a short-term deal with Wimbledon until the end of the season. His time with the Dons saw him clock up 11 appearances, one of which was their League Two Play-off Final triumph against Argyle at Wembley.
Described as a box-to-box central midfielder, the 23-year-old became Derek Adam's third summer signing of 2016, only three weeks after walking up the steps at Wembley. However, not helped by injuries, he found a regular berth hard to come by, with an almost even mix of starts and appearances from the bench. He did net twice though: the first the almost obligatory goal against his old club (AFC Wimbledon) in a Football League Trophy defeat at Kingsmeadow in early October, and 11 days later, an exciting late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Portsmouth at Home Park.
At the end of the season, with Argyle promoted to League One, Smith was not offered a new contract, and in June 2017 he signed for League Two Yeovil Town on a two-year deal.
Having made 19 appearances for Yeovil, he later played for Boreham Wood in 2018–2019 (9 games), Billericay Town in 2019 (5 games, 1 goal), Kingstonian on loan in 2019 (4 games and 1 goal), then another loan that year to Kings Langley (8 games). He then moved to Wealdstone from 2019–2021, playing 51 times and scoring twice. In 2021–2022 he moved to Boreham Wood, taking on the role of player/first team coach.
In July 2022 Smith moved to Barnet on a two-year contract, making seven appearances in the 2022-23 season, and was then promoted to become their assistant manager.
