Born in Rennes, the Frenchman first put on his goalkeeping gloves as a schoolboy in nearby Châteaugiron. A year later he took up an offer from his hometown club, Stade Rennais, where he gradually progressed through the ranks over the following 11 years. Unable to break though at the top-flight club, Dorel moved on to Les Herbiers, GSI Pontivy and then Vendée Poiré sur Vie Football, playing mostly in the French third tier. He was released by Poiré sur Vie at the end of the 2014-15 season after the club suffered financial sanctions and relegation from the Championnat National (third tier) to the Championnat de France amateur 2 (fifth tier) as a result.
After a few months training with Fleetwood Town in the autumn of 2015 and briefly back with Poiré sur Vie in the new year, the 23-year-old was signed by Derek Adams in March 2016. Dorel joined on a short-term deal until the end of the season, ostensibly to bolster the goalkeeping cover for Luke McCormick, with ten games left of the Pilgrims' promotion-chasing season. He made one appearance in the final game of the regular season, playing the whole match in the 5-0 home victory over Hartlepool United.
Dorel's opportunities during the 2016-17 campaign were restricted to four cup matches, one EFL Cup and three EFL Trophy starts. He was released in May 2017 and four months later signed on non-contract terms for Torquay United in the National League. Having made 35 appearances in all competitions for United, as part of cost-cutting and rationalisation of their squad, he was released and took the lesser-trodden path to SSC Farul Constanța in Romania's Liga II (the country's second tier).
After just two appearances for the Romanian side, he retired from professional football in 2018.
